About IH
Hartford’s premier provider of comprehensive business creation and support services to low and moderate-income immigrant and BIPOC-owned small businesses of all nationalities. Located at 151 New Park Ave, Hartford, CT, IH has been in operation for 14 years, and is funded through corporate, foundation, local, state, and federal government support. IH’s annual budget is currently $600,000.
The mission of IH is to stimulate the economy, create jobs, and raise incomes through immigrant and minority enterprise. IH removes cultural, financial, and knowledge barriers to business venture liftoff, growth, and success. IH spreads prosperity in Greater Hartford by working with these entrepreneurs.
International Hartford’s goals are to:
- Support the entrepreneurial initiatives of Hartford immigrants
- Grow and expand IH programmatic and economic development efforts creating and supporting entrepreneurs who build their own businesses, creating jobs in Greater Hartford
- Expand the capacity and access to tools provided by local resources to provide financial literacy with business components, financial consulting, as well as loan preparation and step by step assistance to early stage and established business owners
- Develop strategies and funding partners for legal education and asset protection for immigrant clients impacted by deportation
- Sustain and expand fundraising resources and networks

International Hartford has a staff of three and an annual operating budget of close to $600,000. IH is overseen by an eight-member Board of Directors composed of local business owners and community leaders. IH Co-Founder and current Executive Director, Art Feltman, has announced his plan to retire after a decade in the position.
Opportunity Going Forward
The Executive Director will have the opportunity to lead a well-established, highly credible, influential organization. Guided by its core values of community leadership, economic opportunity, inclusion, innovation, performance, accountability, and collaboration; high priorities for the position are:
- A visionary leader who is a knowledgeable and passionate business and economic development practitioner who will work well with a like-minded 8-member Board of Directors to carry out the organization’s mission and goals. The Executive Director provides organizational leadership and operational management, is responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, financial health and ultimately the success of the organization. The Executive Director has the primary responsibility for obtaining funding and financial support, for managing financial budgets and staff for operational results, and for representing International Hartford in the communities it serves.
- With a starting salary range of $85,000 - $95,000.00, which will be reviewed periodically based on job performance and resource growth accomplishments, this is an opportunity to apply an entrepreneurial mindset to leverage the accomplishments and reputation of a small established nonprofit by collaborating effectively with an experienced and engaged board and an internal team to grow IH into a more powerful and prominent economic development engine.
- There will be a well-designed 3 – 4-month onboarding and transition period.
