    The Marketing Manager Role and Key Responsibilities

    A key leader on the Marketing + Business Development Team and thought partner to the Chief Marketing + Business Development Strategy Officer (CMBDO), the Marketing Manager is responsible for aligning the firm’s strategic objectives with marketing strategy and execution. Bringing marketing and communications expertise and practical experience, the marketing manager’s portfolio spans enterprise-level marketing strategy, program design, and team-level execution.

    Reporting to the Chief Marketing + Business Development Strategy Officer, the Marketing Manager oversees the marketing function on a day-to-day basis, with appropriate guidance. The Marketing Manager contributes to and executes on strategy across digital marketing, thought leadership, practice management, client satisfaction, and oversight of marketing analytics. The Marketing Manager is expected to perform with excellence in the following areas:

    Strategy and Planning

    • Contribute to annual marketing strategy design and refresh.
    • Identify and track marketing metrics.
    • Develop marketing budget.
    • Manage and partner with marketing vendors.

    Digital marketing

    Website

    • In partnership with our digital marketing agency and CMBDO, develop and manage website content aligned with practice area and firm marketing strategy.
    • Manage operational updates to the website as requested.
    • Update website via Drupal based content management system.

    Social media

    • Develop and manage content for all social media platforms, including written copy and visual assets aligned with Isaacson, Miller style guide.
    • Oversee analytical reporting for social media platforms.

    Newsletter

    • Manage the firm’s quarterly newsletter, Impact + Insights via Constant Contact.
    • Maintain various email distribution lists for client marketing and communication purposes.

    Holiday card

    • Manage all logistics for firm’s holiday e-card including design and distribution.

    Thought leadership

    Manage and develop thought leadership calendar, including podcast and written content.

    Podcast | Searchcast

    • Produce and manage the firm’s quarterly podcast series in partnership with practice leaders, partners, and podcast production manager.

    Written content

    • Partner with digital marketing agency to drive quarterly content tied to SEO strategy.
    • Partner with practice leaders/partners/digital marketing agency on content topics, editing pieces, and publication placement.

    Practice management

    • Provide general marketing support to practice areas.
    • Develop and implement business development plans in partnership with CMBDO.
    • Manage and coordinate annual sponsorship and conference calendar.
    • Manage practice area budgets in partnership with practice leaders.

    Client satisfaction

    • Oversee client survey and client interview programs.
    • Manage client survey and client interview data.
    • Partner with senior leadership on management of firm’s client interview program including identifying clients for interviews, assembling background information, coordinating interviewer group, utilizing quantitative interview data collection tool, and distributing data and insights.

    Related project management and additional tasks

    • Respond to proposal, pitch deck, and other marketing material requests as needed.
    • Manage related team projects.

    The Successful Candidate

    The successful candidate will have a strategic mindset, excellent writing skills, an aesthetic and design sensibility, experience with making data-driven marketing decisions and recommendations, and the ability to effectively articulate IM’s value proposition and practice/industry differentiation. Attention to detail and precision in both thinking and written work product are important. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required. Although no one person will meet all of these criteria, the successful candidate will possess many of the following qualities and experiences:

    • 5-7+ years of marketing experience. While not required, previous experience in or knowledge of executive search and/or professional services is desirable.
    • A high level of initiative, self-direction, intellectual curiosity, professional maturity, and a strong work ethic.
    • Ability to create, innovate, and generate ideas.
    • Advanced project, organization, and time management skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a demanding, fast-paced, deadline-driven work environment.
    • An aesthetic and design sensibility.
    • A high-level understanding of marketing metrics and benchmarks and comfort with data analysis; experience with making data-driven decisions and recommendations.
    • Highly attuned attention to detail to effectively proofread and ensure consistency of style throughout all written materials.
    • Outstanding interpersonal communication and collaboration skills and the ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy to maintain effective relationships with a broad group of professionals.
    • Flexibility and comfort with ambiguity.
    • Ability to understand and support the firm’s goals, services, strategy, and community.
    • A direct but collegial and thoughtful communication style and the readiness required to effectively manage potential direct reports in the future.
    • A mature business sense, understanding both the importance of individual contribution and how the marketing and business development team impacts the business of the firm.

    As an employee-owned firm, IM offers competitive compensation and benefits, including a non-contributory health and dental offering as well as participation in a profit-sharing pension plan and an employee stock ownership plan. The minimum starting salary for this position is $100,000 annually. We value relevant experience for this role that could accelerate contribution and impact to IM. Compensation will be determined based on the relevant experience the candidate brings to the role.
