    Description

    About the Initiative

Democracy only works when people trust it.

Team Democracy’s Principles for Trusted Elections (PTE) initiative is a bold, nonpartisan effort to strengthen civic trust and uphold democratic norms in the United States. In an era marked by misinformation and deepening division, PTE brings together citizens, community leaders, and institutions to make public, visible commitments to truth, transparency, peaceful engagement, and electoral participation. Through collaborative campaigns and civic partnerships, we work to rebuild confidence in elections and support the democratic values that bind us together.

Team Democracy is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization working to unite Americans across political and ideological divides in defense of the core principles of our constitutional democracy. Our mission is to promote civic trust, electoral integrity, and a shared commitment to democratic norms through collaborative, cross-partisan initiatives. In addition to the Principles for Trusted Elections, our work includes programs that foster dialogue across differences and create accessible tools for civic learning and engagement.

    About the Internship

Are you a current college student or a recent graduate who follows the news, cares about civic engagement, and wants hands-on experience in strengthening democracy? Join us as a Media Monitoring & Program Support Intern and get a front-row seat to the role narrative and trust play in protecting our democratic institutions. You’ll help monitor public discourse, surface key insights, and support program operations as part of a small, dedicated team.

This is a flexible, part-time opportunity designed to fit your schedule—ideal for early-career professionals looking to build real-world experience in civic communications and nonprofit work. Interns work up to 10 hours per week and receive a $100 weekly stipend in recognition of their contributions.

    What You’ll Do

    • Monitor news outlets, social media, and public commentary to identify trends related to election trust, civic norms, and polarization
    • Track media mentions of the PTE initiative and its partners
    • Curate regular digests of relevant stories and flag narrative shifts or risks
    • Assist with outreach materials—drafting, formatting, and organizing content for public engagement
    • Support logistics, scheduling, and data entry for ongoing projects
    • Attend internal team meetings and contribute summaries or notes

You’re a Great Fit If You:

    • Are a current college student or recent graduate
    • Are detail-oriented and love making sense of fast-moving information
    • Are plugged in to current events and fluent in platforms like Twitter/X, Instagram, and Facebook
    • Communicate clearly and professionally in writing and conversation
    • Are passionate about protecting democracy and civic norms
    • Thrive in remote environments and can manage your own time effectively

    Bonus Perks

    • $100 weekly stipend
    • Flexible hours (up to 10/week)
    • Mentorship from experienced civic professionals
    • A chance to make meaningful impact at a critical time for American democracy
    • Experience in both nonprofit operations and media strategy
