    Description

The Safe Routes Partnership seeks a part-time federal policy intern. Congress is gearing up for a renewal of the Surface Transportation Law (which happens every 5-6 years) plus is also considering proposed funding cuts to health programs benefiting active transportation. This is a great opportunity to provide support for our nonprofit’s push for funding and policies that create opportunities for safe routes for families all across the country and to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of how federal policy gets made!

We are looking for an individual with strong writing, research and communications skills that can be relied upon to meet deadlines while staying organized. We welcome undergrad and graduate student applications, as well as adults who are looking for part-time work in the public policy space. Applicants should have an interest in public policy and ideally a passion for active transportation and healthy communities.

Responsibilities will include researching members of Congress, scheduling meetings, identifying local success stories, and writing assorted public policy blogs, fact sheets, and grassroots alerts. There will also be opportunities to attend selected meetings with Congressional staff and coalition partners to further your knowledge of how federal policy is made.

Please review the job description for more details about the position responsibilities and qualifications.

This internship is for 15 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months, with an opportunity to extend the internship into 2026, and an anticipated start in early July 2025. The pay is $20-27 per hour, depending on the candidate’s experience. This is a remote position, meaning you would work from your home or school, with in-person meetings with your supervisor throughout the internship. Candidates should be based in the greater DC area to facilitate participation in meetings with Congressional staff and coalition partners in DC. Local travel expenses will be reimbursed.

We look forward to hearing from qualified candidates interested in joining our dynamic, visionary and growing national non-profit. Visit www.saferoutespartnership.org for more information about our organization.
