    Description

    Waterfront Director (Seasonal, Summer 2025)

Camp Jamison – Catskill Mountains, NY

    • Dates: July 21–August 9, 2025
    • Compensation: $1,100 stipend, lodging, meals, and transportation from Philadelphia provided

    About Camp Jamison:

Camp Jamison is a joyful, inclusive, and affordable overnight summer camp serving Philadelphia youth. In 2025, we’re celebrating our 15th summer by welcoming 140 campers across two one-week sessions. We are rooted in peacebuilding, leadership development, and the healing power of nature.

    Position Overview:

We’re seeking a Waterfront Director to lead and manage our lakefront activities, including swimming and boating. This person will help create a safe, well-run, and empowering environment for our campers and staff.

You'll supervise waterfront programming, support a team of 1 lifeguard, and ensure compliance with New York State and Orange County Health Department regulations.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Supervise all waterfront activities (swimming, boating, safety procedures)
    • Uphold daily waterfront safety protocols and respond to emergencies
    • Manage waterfront schedules and transitions for upper and lower camp
    • Support and collaborate with our certified lifeguard
    • Maintain equipment and shoreline readiness
    • Help shape a culture of joy, safety, and care at the lake

    Schedule:

    • Staff Training Week: July 21–27 (optional but strongly encouraged)
    • Session A: July 28–August 3 (65 campers enrolled)
    • Session B: August 3–9 (20 campers and growing!)

Required Certifications & Qualifications (per Orange County, NY regulations):

    • Must be 21+ years old
    • Experience:
      • At least 1 season as an Aquatics Director or
      • 2 seasons (minimum 12 weeks) as a lifeguard at a facility with more than one lifeguard on duty
    • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer — must be dated in 2025
    • First Aid certification (e.g., American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies)
    • Lifeguard Management or Supervision certification (e.g., ARC Lifeguard Management)
    • Lifeguard certification is helpful but not required — you may work alongside a certified lifeguard (already on staff)
    • Waterfront safety and rescue skills — experience managing docks, equipment, and emergency plans

Don't have all the certifications yet?

If you bring the required experience and leadership ability, we can help you get the rest. We offer access to free or low-cost certification programs before camp starts. We believe the right person can grow into this role with the right support.

You’d be a great fit if you:

    • Love working with youth and want to make a real difference this summer
    • Are organized, calm under pressure, and comfortable managing risk
    • Want to spend your summer building joy, peace, and growth on the waterfront
