    Description

CommonLit is a nonprofit edtech organization dedicated to closing the literacy opportunity gap, which disproportionately affects students living in poverty. To achieve this goal, CommonLit provides a highly effective, comprehensive reading program used by millions of teachers. We are a team of passionate professionals, many of whom are former teachers.

    The Opportunity

CommonLit is looking for a Marketing Associate (Contractor) to support the creation of clean, on-brand materials across teams and manage our growing social media presence. In this role, you’ll manage incoming collateral requests, produce assets using templates and brand guidelines, maintain a steady social media posting cadence, and help ensure consistency across everything we share with educators, funders, and partners.

This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong eye for design, who is comfortable using tools like Canva, and who thrives in a collaborative, fast–paced environment. You don’t need to be a formally trained designer, but you do need to be sharp, detail-oriented, creative, confident working within a brand system, and excited about growing CommonLit’s online presence.

The time commitment required for this role is 10-15 hours per week and our target onboarding date is late June to early July.

Apply by date: Tuesday, May 20, 2025 by 5pm ET.

    Qualifications

      • 1-2 years of experience creating visual materials in a professional or academic setting
      • Proficiency with Canva (or similar design tools); experience using brand templates
      • Basic knowledge of layout, color, and typography
      • Organized and responsive
      • Able to manage multiple small requests with quick turnarounds
      • Comfortable working with cross-functional teams and receiving feedback
      • Strong communication and time management skills
      • Preferred: experience in education, nonprofits, or mission-driven organizations

    Responsibilities

      • Manage the Marketing request Notion board and complete ~20 pieces of collateral per month (most take 1-2 hours)
      • Create or edit visual collateral using Canva and brand templates, including one-pagers, slides, and social graphics
      • Ensure all materials follow CommonLit brand guidelines and visual standards
      • Support the recent rebranding effort by continuing to update materials in the new brand and applying new styles as needed
      • Collaborate with stakeholders across teams like Sales, Account Management, Professional Development, and Fundraising to fulfill design needs
      • Maintain and update recurring materials, such as the Professional Development webinar calendar and landing pages
      • Manage CommonLit’s social media presence to deepen brand engagement
      • Communicate proactively with requesters, manage timelines, and flag potential bottlenecks
      • Help identify small improvements to make collateral more effective and usable across teams
      • Contribute to updating collateral when pricing or package names change

Hourly Rate: $25-$30/hour for ~10-15 hours per week

Apply by date: Tuesday, May 20, 2025 by 5pm ET.
