    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Manager, Individual Giving & Donor Engagement will play a key role in the strategic planning and execution of a comprehensive fundraising program that supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s long-term growth, sustainability, and success. Under the direction of Senior Director of Development, this manager will lead efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward mid-level individual and organizational donors. Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of prospects, working with Chapter Staff and key volunteers, and maintaining strong relationships with donors.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development to determine fundraising priorities for AFSP.
    • Develop and execute engagement and solicitation strategies for qualified gift prospects, taking ownership of implementation and follow-through.
    • Support cultivation and solicitation strategies for a portfolio of approximately 500 donors and prospects giving $1,000-$5,000 annually.
    • Lead the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of individual and institutional donors, ensuring regular, strategic, and personalized engagement.
    • Prepare high-quality written materials, including related budgets, reports, contact summaries, thank-you letters, briefings, and other correspondence in support of fundraising efforts.
    • Conduct research on prospective donors and produce donor profiles for staff and Board solicitations.
    • Track and meet established performance metrics and fundraising goals.
    • Document all prospect interactions and fundraising activities in the CRM providing regular updates to the Senior Director of Development.
    • Collaborate across the National Revenue Team, Area and Executive Directors of Chapters and Fundraising Managers contributing to a supportive, respectful, and productive work environment through open communication and shared knowledge.
    • Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of project narratives, budgets, and monitoring and evaluation plans with fundraising priorities.
    • Manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment and offer editorial support to relationship managers across fundraising teams when needed.
    • Support and help sustain ongoing fundraising improvement efforts, including maintaining existing systems and processes, contributing to resource management, facilitating internal communications about new tools and practices, and providing administrative support for key development initiatives.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience

    Experience and/or Training:

    • 4 years’ progressive experience in fundraising and development space
    • Skilled at building and growing relationships with foundations and individual donors

    Technology/Equipment:

    • Excellent knowledge of CRM technology, project management tools, and other appropriate software

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience and/or Training:

    • 5+ years’ progressive experience in fundraising experience at a national nonprofit with national chapters

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    • A firm understanding of nonprofit fundraising best practices
    • Detail oriented with strong time management and organizational skills
    • Clear communicator adept at multiple modes of communication to various audiences
    • Experience writing for donor audiences or other related writing or fundraising experience, including writing solicitation materials and case statements that support the realization of major gift or grant funding
    • Demonstrated experience working with major donors to raise five and six figure gifts.
    • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and committed to meeting aggressive fundraising goals.
    • Comfortable working in Microsoft Office and able to quickly pick up CRM functionality.
    • Able to communicate mission and programs of AFSP to donors.
    • Ability to work independently, be self-directed, assess priorities, and take initiative to excel without significant supervision.
