    Description

    The CIVICUS Monitor is an online platform, providing information on civic space - the respect, in law and in practice, of the fundamental freedoms of association, expression and peaceful assembly and the state’s duty to protect civil society – in 198 countries and territories. It also provides civic space ratings for each of the 198 countries and territories, following an elaborate methodology.

    The CIVICUS Monitor collaborates with over 20 regional research partners across the globe. Monitor updates for these countries and territories, outlining the latest civic space developments and restrictions, are published regularly. Ahead of our People Power under Attack (PPUA) report, published annually in December, we are looking for a consultant to lead the data entry and record civic space incidents contained in the published Monitor updates in the civic space data incident form.

    Qualifications, skills and experience

    • Pursuing or completed minimum bachelor’s degree in international relations, political science, human rights, social sciences, or a related field. Students are encouraged to apply.
    • Excellent written and spoken English.
    • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Knowledge or experience of research on human rights, human rights monitoring, and related analytical tools.
    • Proficiency and confidence with Excel and online data collection and analysis tools.
    • Able to work remotely, be self-directed and work to a high standard, while meeting client deadlines.

    Duration consultancy

    This consultancy will take place between June and December 2025, on a needs-basis as Monitor updates are published.
