    Position Summary:

    The Controller position is responsible for oversight of general accounting and financial reporting functions. The Controller will lead the daily finance operations and manage the accounting team staff, including functional responsibility for all the general ledger activities, government contracts, and grant reporting. The Controller will assist the CFO in ensuring that appropriate financial systems and procedures are established and maintained to support effective program implementation. The Controller will work closely with supervisors and staff to educate the organization on accounting procedures and explore ways the finance function can best support program operations. Additionally, the Controller will support the CFO in developing strategies to enhance and better integrate the various organizational systems (Inventory, HR, IT, and Finance).

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with US GAA standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain internal control and adherence to policies and procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure proper financial reporting.
    • Oversee month-end close, including timely reconciliation of bank and investment accounts and reconciliation with records maintained by other departments, such as related to contribution revenue and inventory.
    • Analyze financial data and present accurate and timely financial reports in a clear manner, understandable to various stakeholders.
    • Assist with the annual budgeting and other financial planning processes.
    • Support the CFO in engaging the board's audit and finance committees around financial information.
    • Ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets and cost allocation methodology, including releasing restricted revenue as required.
    • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for government, corporate, and foundation grants.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent required.
    • 5-7 years relevant experience, including managing financial accounting professionals.
    • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and related nonprofit revenue recognition standards. Experience with Sage Intacct a plus.
    • Understanding and experience with nonprofit finance and grant tracking and reporting, including government grants.
    • Strong experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and enterprise accounting.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, collaboratively and communicate well within a remote team.
    • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the mission of MANNA FoodBank.
    • Sensitivity and passion related to issues of poverty and hunger relief.

    Schedule: A flexible schedule is required, including some evening and weekend hours as needed. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., with evening and weekend hours as needed. In instances of a federal, state, or locally declared emergency or order, MANNA FoodBank is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called upon to perform regular or emergent duties.
