    Description

The SERP Institute, a nonprofit education research and development organization, seeks a temporary, entry-level Production Assistant based in Washington, DC, starting early summer 2025, with potential for full-time work starting in the fall. The successful candidate will join a team working on a large-scale implementation and evaluation project of the Strategic Adolescent Reading Intervention (STARI) —a Tier II program for students in grades 6+ who read 2 or more years below grade level.

The position will primarily support revisions and updates to STARI curriculum and instructional files and STARI professional development resources. Specific responsibilities will include:

    • Update and edit curriculum and instructional materials to ensure accuracy, visual consistency, and professional quality.
    • Format documents using Adobe, Google Suite, Mac Applications, and other platforms; apply layout standards and styles consistently.
    • Conduct detailed reviews of instructional files, identifying and correcting issues in formatting, typography, spacing, and alignment.
    • Ensure all materials adhere to organizational style guides and quality control standards.
    • Collaborate closely with the Project Director and senior team members on production timelines and task prioritization.
    • Maintain organized documentation and version control for updated materials.
    • Provide occasional support for virtual professional development and meeting materials.
    • Assist with reviewing outreach and marketing communications.
    • Providing support for the project director and other SERP staff as required.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required (or pending Spring 2025).
    • Demonstrated experience or coursework in editing, design, or document production.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies in text and formatting.
    • Basic familiarity with design principles and the ability to distinguish style and layout differences.
    • Proficiency in Google Workspace; experience with Pages (Mac) and Adobe Creative Suite and/or learning management systems a plus.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly with team members.
    • Flexible, organized, and comfortable working independently or collaboratively.

Success in the SERP environment requires dedication to bridging the worlds of research, practice, and design, flexibility in the kinds of tasks one is willing to take on, careful attention to detail, ability to prioritize work and be flexible, and a willingness to work respectfully with people in universities, schools, and other organizations.

Start Date and Location: Preferred start date is June 2025. SERP uses a hybrid work model; most work may be completed remotely, but some in-person collaboration may be needed at the SERP office in Washington, DC. Local candidates are preferred, though remote applicants will also be considered.

Compensation: Temporary summer position: $25/hour. Approximately 40 hours per week. Potential for full-time employment in the fall, starting at $50,000 annually, commensurate with experience and project funding. SERP offers a generous benefits package for full-time employees.

To apply: Please submit a cover letter and one-page resume, including your preferred start date. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and selected candidates will be contacted by June 1, 2025 for an interview.
