    Description

    JOB POSTING

Position Title: Senior Attorney for Oil, Gas, and Petrochemicals Program

    Location: Texas or Louisiana

    Date Posted: June 18, 2025

BACKGROUND ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL INTEGRITY PROJECT

The Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) is America’s environmental watchdog. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting public health and our natural world by holding polluters and government agencies accountable under the law. We advocate for tough but fair environmental standards and empower communities fighting for clean air and water.

Our team of lawyers, analysts, communications staff, and engineers provide support to communities fighting David vs. Goliath battles against some of the biggest polluters in the U.S. We sue not only corporations that don’t follow the law, but also federal and state agencies when they fail to do their jobs protecting the environment.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

EIP is accepting applications for a Senior Attorney to join our team working to hold industrial polluters and federal and state agencies accountable for compliance with the Clean Air Act and other environmental laws. Working with EIP’s team of lawyers and analysts, the Senior Attorney, who will support EIP’s Clean Air and Climate Programs, will work to reduce air and other pollution from industrial sources through litigation and federal and state administrative permitting and rulemaking processes. EIP takes legal action to clean up pollution; we publish data-driven reports that push federal and state regulators to better protect public health; and we work with frontline communities to obtain the protections of our environmental laws. EIP works across the United States, but this position will have a special focus on industrial sources located in Texas and Louisiana. This position will initially be for a twoyear term, with the possibility that the term will be extended and/or that the position will be made permanent. The position will be based in Texas or Louisiana and may require occasional travel in these states.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop, analyze, and execute legal strategies to reduce air and other pollution.
    • Perform a range of litigation and legal tasks to support administrative advocacy and litigation efforts, including: legal research; drafting comments, complaints, motions, briefs, and discovery requests and responses; and oral advocacy.
    • Work with internal and external experts to develop the factual, technical, and scientific bases to support EIP’s advocacy efforts.
    • Represent EIP and other organizations in federal and state litigation, administrative proceedings, and public meetings.
    • Manage client relationships and work effectively within coalitions.
    • Draft grant proposals and reports.
    • Work with EIP’s communications and research teams to develop and execute communications strategies and reports.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    • Active bar membership in good standing in Texas or Louisiana (or a willingness to apply for admission to one of these bars within six months of accepting the job).
    • 6+ years of legal experience, and experience in environmental and/or administrative law. Strong preference for attorneys with significant Clean Air Act experience.
    • Excellent analytical, research, writing, organizational, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Passion for protecting public health and the environment.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
    • Prior experience or demonstrated commitment to working with members of communities directly impacted by pollution.
    • Strong work ethic, robust problem-solving skills, and sound judgment.

    COMPENSATION

EIP offers competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary range is $105,000 - $135,000.

    EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

EIP is an equal opportunity employer. As an equal opportunity employer, EIP is committed to employment practices that ensure that employees and applicants for employment are provided with equal opportunities without regard to race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, age, religion, physical or mental disability, medical condition, veteran status, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information or any other factor that is not related to the position.
