    Organization Summary: Founded in 1993 by Alex McElree, a Vietnam War veteran, Operation Dignity has been a leading force in combating homelessness. Alex, who faced addiction and homelessness himself, feared that he had survived war only to die on the streets of Oakland. After stabilizing his life, he began his mission with a few beds in a small Oakland shelter.

    The name "Operation Dignity" was chosen to reflect both their military service and their goals in civilian life. Since then, Operation Dignity has expanded significantly, now managing eight (8) properties that provide shelter and housing to the unhoused of Alameda County.

    Position Summary: Dignity Village is an interim housing site that provides housing and supportive services for up to 61 clients while they stabilize and prepare to transition from homelessness to permanent housing, The Site Support Specialist (SSS) position is a critical part of the Dignity Village team, helping to ensure the safety and maintenance of the site, positive relationships with participants, and streamline operations.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Site Support Specialist will assist in the day-to-day operations of the site, including meal services, monitoring/ensuring site cleanliness with janitorial; communications with security team, support for Community Engagement activities; assistance with ensuring safety/cleanliness of site and surrounding two-block radius. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Manage site entry and exits, adhering to standard operating procedures.
    • Assist with food storage and meal distribution, including maintaining clean and orderly community facilities (with staff back-up as needed).
    • Work in partnership with other members of the team to conduct daily wellness checks.
    • Assist in coordinating weekly Resident Meetings; attend and support with any follow-up items.
    • Coordinate unit inspections as participants move in/out; note any maintenance needs and coordinate with on-site Maintenance Specialist and any external vendors as needed.
    • Partner with external security firm who will be on-site 15 hours per day, sharing any pertinent information to ensure a smooth hand-off between staff and security shifts.
    • Property management functions, including maintaining a current schedule of inspections (e.g., fire safety), ensuring emergency evacuation protocols are clearly posted and shared with participants, scheduling emergency preparedness drills, etc.
    • Ensure that the two block surrounding radius of the property remains clean and free of debris.
    • Document any incident reports regarding participant behavior that does not conform with program rules and/or respect other residents, staff, or partner agencies.
    • Maintain a positive and respectful relationship with all participants, partners, and colleagues.
    • Must maintain strict confidentiality of participant information and healthy professional boundaries.
    • Model a positive attitude and a strengths-based approach in all interactions.
