Social Media Content Creator (candidates can be based anywhere in the U.S.)

Climate Defiance, an organization working to fight climate change and end fossil fuel extraction, is seeking a Social Media Content Creator. Climate Defiance works to elevate climate change as a top political issue in the US through mass turnout, nonviolent direct action, and strategic communications, and the Social Media Content Creator is critical for our success. As the Content Creator, you will be a part of groundbreaking work that is shaking society awake and putting political leaders and company executives to act with the urgency that this moment deserves.

This role is an excellent opportunity to be a part of a growing organization, work with great people, and building a viral online presence to move the needle on climate change. To date, we have reached over 100,000,000 organic impressions on our social media channels and we’re just getting started. The Social Media Content Creator will supercharge our social media and new media programs to take this to the next level.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing our social media content, plans, calendar, and vision
• Creating written content for twitter, bluesky, and threads
• Leading our tiktok presence, developing content
• Leading our instagram reels presence, including face-to-camera videos and explainer videos
• Managing our new media content, including youtube channels and podcasts
• Developing other content as needed, including memes.
• Supporting our email program and website content, as needed.
• Administrative responsibilities, including tracking progress toward online goals
• Contributing to Climate Defiance’s overall narrative and communications approach
• Travel to cities to participate in actions

About you:

You are a collaborative and empathetic leader. Committed to social change, you champion racial, economic, and environmental justice. You are an awesome content creator. You have a proven track record of reaching millions on social media through content that is some combination of witty, sharp, angry, or creative.

Qualifications:

• You have experience creating compelling content for progressive causes
• You have a proven track record of regularly generating tens of thousands of likes on social media through content that is some combination of witty, sharp, angry, or creative.
• You have experience working on and/ or a strong interest in climate change or environmental issues
• You are a self-starter, you excel in executing, implementing, and troubleshooting.
• You have some experience creating content for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and/ or podcasts
• You have video editing experience.
• Willingness to Travel: Flexibility and readiness to engage in regular travel for actions.

Preferred qualifications:

• You have some experience volunteering or working in a campaign, organizing, and/ or progressive issue setting.
• You have experience with direct actions and your convictions align with principles of nonviolent confrontation, direct action, and disruption
• Email writing abilities are a plus.

Location:

Candidates can be based anywhere in the U.S., with a preference for large cities. Due to the travel involved, it’s helpful to be based near a major airport.

Pay & Benefits:

The salary for this position is $62,400 with additional benefits, including unlimited vacation time (with 20 days plus Christmas week encouraged), group health care, and a 401(k) with a 3% employer contribution.

Structure:

You will report to our incoming Communications Director and work closely with the Organizing Director, Executive Director, and organizing staff.
