    Description

    About the Role

We’re hiring a Digital Content & Community Growth Manager—part digital storyteller, part social media savant, part grassroots connector. This person will run point on our social media accounts, expand and evolve our Substack newsletter, launch a (wo)man-on-the-street TikTok interview series, and help grow our national small business membership by identifying and engaging entrepreneurs already showing up in the news.

    What You’ll Do

Social Media & Content Creation (40%)

    • Manage and grow MSA’s social media presence across platforms (TikTok, Instagram, Twitter/X, Threads, Facebook, LinkedIn)
    • Develop a consistent content calendar with timely, engaging posts (memes, reels, carousels, infographics, etc.)
    • Launch a recurring “Main Street Mic Check” series—short, on-the-ground interviews with small business owners about current events and policy
    • Repurpose existing content into platform-optimized formats (clips, quote cards, threads, stories)

    Substack Newsletter Management (30%)

    • Oversee MSA’s The Write Off Substack newsletter
    • Help evolve the newsletter from a weekly roundup to daily bite-sized editions (quick hits, small biz news, policy breakdowns, etc.)
    • Collaborate with staff to source compelling member stories, quotes, and takes for the newsletter
    • Track metrics, test new formats, and grow readership and engagement

    Membership Growth (20%)

    • Regularly scan local and national media for small business owners featured in the news
    • Reach out to featured business owners and invite them to connect with MSA
    • Build systems to track and nurture new contacts into engaged members
    • Work with organizing staff to plug in new members to campaigns and storytelling opportunities
    • Bonus: you’ve worked with major databases/CRMs (Every Action, Blackbaud, Salesforce, etc.)

    Copywriting & Collaboration (10%)

    • Write sharp, engaging copy that reflects MSA’s voice—clear, bold, human
    • Assist with digital campaign launches, email blasts, press quotes, and rapid-response moments
    • Coordinate with comms and organizing teams to align content with campaign goals

    Who You Are

    • A strong writer with a sharp sense of humor, a good B.S. detector, and a gift for turning headlines into content
    • Comfortable on camera—or behind one—with a knack for interviewing, editing, and storytelling
    • Deeply curious about small business, economic justice, and the real-life impact of policy
    • A daily user of TikTok, Instagram, Twitter/X, and Substack—you know what’s trending and why it matters
    • Organized, deadline-driven, and able to juggle creative content and relationship-building with ease
    • Bonus: you’ve worked in advocacy, organizing, or political comms—and you understand that our audience isn’t just scrolling for fun, they’re looking for a fight worth joining
