    Description

    The New York Philharmonic connects with millions of music lovers each season through live concerts in New York and around the world, as well as broadcasts, recordings, and education programs. After returning to a transformed David Geffen Hall in 2022, the Orchestra is acting on a renewed commitment to building on a legacy of more than 180 years, serving as a platform for today’s greatest musical artists and connecting with our communities. Gustavo Dudamel will become the Philharmonic’s Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Music & Artistic Director in the 2026–27 season.

    The New York Philharmonic is seeking a highly collaborative Social Media Manager with strong content creation skills to grow the NY Phil’s social media presence as a key component of the institution’s public communications. The Social Media Manager plays a central role in real-time storytelling and community engagement while working across departments to create compelling and relevant content that helps build awareness of the NY Phil’s mission and brand. As a member of the External Affairs department, this role helps shape and project the Philharmonic’s voice across platforms, ensuring alignment with institutional messaging, press strategy, and organizational values.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead creation and curation of compelling social-first content in collaboration with NY Phil musicians, across departments, and with external partners including artists and their management to elevate storytelling and broaden the Philharmonic’s reach across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) to a global audience.
    • As a member of the External Affairs team and alongside PR, ensure social content aligns with institutional messaging, earned media priorities, broader communications initiatives, and editorial standards and tone.
    • Work closely with Marketing team to promote the NY Phil brand through expanding audience reach, brand storytelling, and concert awareness (including Marketing-generated paid promotions); collaborate across the institution to develop and execute a social media strategy that reflects the NY Phil’s communications goals, voice, and values.
    • Lead on-site content capture for socials; maintain and update the content calendar; schedule and publish posts across social platforms.
    • Manage and monitor the Philharmonic’s social media community, responding in real time to opportunities, conversations, and risks.
    • Stay current with platform trends, features, and best practices; recommend innovative approaches that elevate the Philharmonic’s digital storytelling.
    • Support communications efforts during high-profile events, press moments, or crisis response.
    • Analyze metrics to refine approach and report on performance, engagement, and brand sentiment, leveraging analytics to optimize content strategy in real time. This role is responsible for regular reporting to show trends and provide insights to be shared cross-departmentally.
    • A commitment to contributing to an inclusive working environment is required.
    • Miscellaneous duties as assigned; some evening and weekend availability required. Each member of the External Affairs team to equitably share in the responsibilities of concert duty and media events (such as press conferences, Concerts in the Parks, galas, etc.) throughout the year.

    Qualifications

    The candidate should have 3+ years’ (or the equivalent) experience managing social media for a brand. The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative content creator with proficiency in using social media management and listening tools; have strong communication and socials copywriting skills, plus solid editorial judgement and proficiency in video- / photo-editing; and approach growing the NY Phil’s social media presence with the agility, flexibility, and lateral thinking necessary to be the lead for social media in a fast-moving team with a well-known brand.
