    Description

    The Community Program Associate will support the implementation of program priorities and activities for the Mayan League in Piscataway Nation territory, commonly known as the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan region (DMV: District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia). This role will carry out the programmatic efforts to address the disproportionate impact inequitable policies and programs have on vulnerable communities, including people of color, low-wage earners, uninsured/underinsured individuals, immigrant communities, including undocumented and under-documented individuals, with an emphasis on Maya and other Indigenous Peoples and communities. This is a full-time temporary position requiring 35 hours of work per week for a duration of 90 days. The role will report directly to the Executive Director. The candidate must be located in the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan region / DMV Region. This is a remote position with some travel, evening, and weekend work may be required for community events. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Support with rapid response programmatic work in the DMV region, with a focus on supporting the distribution of Know Your Rights resources, and continued engagement with Maya community leaders and coalitions in the area.
    • Assist with programmatic work surrounding community leadership development priorities and initiatives.
    • Represent the Mayan League at coalition meetings and collaborate with partner organizations to advance strategic program priorities.
    • Provide administrative support to community leaders, involving community events such as food distribution or coalition meetings.
    • Support the logistical planning and execution of family emergency preparedness support clinics in the DVM region.
    • Contribute to Mayan League operational practices in data entry, documentation, organizational priorities, communications, and reporting as requested.
    • Identify, build, and sustain existing and new relationships with local organizations, civic, and nonprofit partners.
    • Participate in weekly Program Team and All-Staff meetings, providing program-related updates to Mayan League teams and participating in weekly substantive check-ins with the Program team and the Executive Director.
    • Provide in-person or virtual event support during live events and other community outreach efforts.
    • Provide day-to-day general administrative, clerical, logistical, and support services with Mayan League Programs.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience coordinating community-centered program activities.
    • At least one year of experience related to office administration
    • Multilingual, with a minimum of Spanish and English fluency; proficiency in a Mayan or an Indigenous language is a plus, but not required.
    • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and efficient
    • Ability to manage, organize, and coordinate simultaneous projects with multiple components
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with strong planning, organizational, and follow-up skills.
    • Able to work with a diverse population and staff and communicate authentically and respectfully to resolve conflict across lines of difference
    • Experience engaging community and movement organizations, preferably with strong relationships with organizations doing Indigenous Peoples’ rights work.
    • Experience or familiarity with Indigenous Peoples’ rights, including those of Indigenous women, as well as human rights, immigrant and refugee rights, environmental protection, climate justice, and social justice, is highly valued.
    • Excellent computer knowledge and skills, including proficiency in Microsoft and Google operating systems.
    • Able to manage and utilize various technology platforms to communicate with community members, including email, Google Chat/Meet, WhatsApp, SIGNAL, and Zoom.
    • Strong command and understanding of racial equity concepts and issues within the nonprofit sector
    • May be required to work on the weekends and evenings
