    Description

    The Community Service Society (CSS) is an independent, not-for-profit organization that has been at the forefront of public policy innovations that support low-income New Yorkers for 175 years. CSS’s Health Initiatives Department runs a number of statewide programs that help New Yorkers find and use their health insurance or otherwise access health care, including: the CSS Navigator Network (CNN); Community Health Advocates (CHA); Community Health Access for Addiction and Mental Healthcare Project (CHAMP); the Independent Consumer Advocacy Network (ICAN); and the Facilitated Enrollment for the Aged Blind and Disabled program (FE-ABD). These services are free for New York health care consumers and small businesses. It also coordinates the Health Care for All New York Campaign (HCFANY), a coalition of 170 groups dedicated to securing quality, affordable coverage for all New Yorkers.

    CSS seeks a highly organized mission-driven program administration specialist consistent with the following description.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a key administrative support to the Vice President of Health Initiatives and Policy team, managing dynamic schedules, coordinating vendor invoicing, and ensuring smooth daily operations.
    • Provide administrative support for the day-to-day functioning of the HI management and policy teams.
    • Support health advocacy activities, including setting up meetings with legislators and preparing lobbying packets.
    • Assist health policy initiatives through research, data analysis, and synthesis of complex information to inform decision-making and advocacy efforts.
    • Assists with document preparation, including writing and proof-reading.
    • Administers HI purchasing and staff expenses.
    • Maintain campaign email lists, meeting notes, and scheduling.
    • Maintain contact information for HI Business Continuity Plan.
    • Update HCFANY website and send Constant Contact emails to HCFANY list.
    • Coordinate logistics and materials for trainings and stakeholder meetings, ensuring consistent and professional delivery of content and resources.
    • Maintain a central paper and electronic filing system for HI and health policy team and maintain program and administrative files, including archived records.
    • Provide support for the HI Department at meetings, functions, and events, as assigned.
    • Perform other duties as may be required.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
    • Excellent organizational, written and oral communications skills required.
    • Experience working in nonprofit, mission-driven, or public policy agencies strongly preferred.
    • Intermediate to advanced competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, Teams, and PowerPoint required.
    • Experience with Salesforce (or other databases) and/or WordPress a plus.
    • Excellent customer service and telephone communication skills.
    • Demonstrated administrative and budgetary skills required.
    • Ability to work independently and manage time well to meet deadlines.

    Salary and Benefits: This position is union represented by local 1199 SEIU with an annual salary of $68,205.00 and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage provided by 1199. Community Service Society provides an employee benefit package including 403b retirement savings plan, defined benefit retirement plan, commuter benefit plan, EAP, and more in addition to a robust paid time off policy.

    CSS currently offers a hybrid work environment requiring onsite work at CSS’ office at least two days per week and three days per week remote work.
