    NJAIJ brings together the power and strength of our member organizations to ensure immigrant communities are leaders in campaigns that advance justice, inclusion, and belonging. Our recent campaign wins include a state-wide ban on ICE detention centers, the first of its kind on the East Coast, and driver's licenses for all regardless of immigration status.

    The Role

    The Movement Building Manager leads NJAIJ’s programming and member empowerment. The Movement Building Manager develops and executes all aspects of NJAIJ programs and capacity building. The Manager supervises the full time NWKDocumenters Coordinator and occasional seasonal interns and part-time staff. The successful candidate will deepen NJAIJ’s coordination and collaboration with cross-movement organizations and leaders in order to move social, racial and economic justice movements forward and in closer coordination with each other.

    This is a hybrid position that combines some remote work from home, remote work from member organization sites, and in-person attendance at our Newark office. The role will occasionally require periods of standing, walking, and light lifting (boxes with outreach materials, banners, etc). NJAIJ requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination for all staff.

    Responsibilities

    In addition to supporting NJAIJ’s overall mission, the Movement Building Manager will be responsible for:

    • Strengthening NJAIJ’s coalition work by investing in member organizations, including:

      • Provide support of NJAIJ member organizations so they can, in coordination with NJAIJ’s Policy & Advocacy Manager, more fully participate in coalition advocacy campaigns;
    • Regularly engage NJAIJ membership through attendance monitoring, support, and outreach, through:
      • Building and sustaining robust and authentic relationships with NJAIJ members and other movement allies, organizations, and partners;
      • Convening and hosting events, meetings, trainings, fireside chats, listening sessions, and other engagement activities;
    • Grow NJAIJ’s influence as a movement building leader by:
      • Identifying and pursuing partners, networks, issue experts, and other relationships that allow the Movement Building Team to bring additional programming or training topics to the coalition;
      • Planinng and facilitating technical assistance and capacity-building for newly emerging coalitions and grassroots organizations so that they may use NJAIJ tools and resources to further establish themselves in the social and racial justice movement;
      • Curating the NJAIJ Resource Hub and collaborating with across other NJAIJ teams to create training materials, explainers, and other resources needed for public education efforts, distributing them to members and partners across the state.

    1-2 Year Priorities

    • Convene regular gatherings of the NJAIJ membership, and engage members regularly between meetings to ensure they feel engaged, connected, and supported in their work with NJAIJ;
    • Identify and grow NJAIJ’s capacity to host new programs within the NJAIJ Movement Building Catalog
    • Analyze and identify geographic regions of New Jersey where immigrant rights advocacy and organizing capacity are limited and provide engagement accordingly;
