    Description

    Kentucky Mountain Housing Development Corporation, Inc. (KMHDC) is a faith-based non-profit organization whose mission is to provide quality, safe, and affordable housing to low-income individuals and families in southeast Kentucky. We have partnered with the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky to offer a position for an AmeriCorps Housing Counselor. The AmeriCorps Housing Counselor will serve for one (1) year, with a strong probability of an offer to remain on staff at Kentucky Mountain Housing.

    As an AmeriCorps Housing Counselor, you will receive training from AmeriCorps and KMHDC to help improve the financial literacy of low-moderate income individuals. By providing credit/budget counseling and homeowner education, you will help people obtain affordable housing, prevent homelessness, and provide financial tools that will benefit the rest of their lives.

    The AmeriCorps Housing Counselor will develop and implement a pre- and post-purchase housing counseling program. Create budget forms and home maintenance manuals; develop strategies for improving credit scores; gain an understanding of community-based resources that can benefit our customers; provide individual and group housing counseling sessions to cover credit, budgeting, foreclosure prevention, and home maintenance.

    General requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and basic computer skills. Preference will be given to those with office experience and/or proficiency with MS Word and Excel programs.

    Benefits

    Awarded upon successful completion of the 1,700 hour term of service (37.5 hours per week for 52 weeks), the AmeriCorps Housing Counselor will be given an Education Award of $7,395 to pay down qualified student loans, student expenses, or tuition.

    Housing may be offered to a highly experienced/highly qualified candidate.
