    Description

    Position: Social Science Teacher

    Status: Exempt (Salary)

    Reports to: Academic Dean or Academic Principal

    Salary & Benefits: This is a full-time, permanent, career position (11 months). The salary is $51,480

    • $60,775 commensurate with experience. The agency benefit package includes health, life, and

    Position Summary: The teachers work under the direction of the Principal. The day-to-day teacher

    operations are managed by the Academic Dean or Academic Principal. A teacher plays a significant

    role in both the education plan and day-to-day operations of the school.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Curriculum: Develops, adapts, and implements existing curriculum maps, scope and sequence,

    course syllabi, and lesson plans to instruct students in measurable ways in the core areas and

    competencies.

    • Instruction: Utilizes effective, research-based instructional practices that support student

    learning. This includes Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Constructivist Learning Theory.

    Also the teacher will select, maintain and use materials, equipment, technology, and facilities to

    maximize student learning opportunities.

    • Competency-Based Education: Responsible for assessing the network competencies and utilizing

    practices that align with Competency-Based Education.

    • Project-Based Learning: Responsible for developing units that are project-based.
    • Grading and Assessment: Responsible for utilizing Master Connect, grading rubrics, and Power

    Teacher Pro. Rubrics are consistently used when assessing students. Teachers also administer,

    score, and interpret diagnostic, progress, evaluation, and test practice examinations in assisting

    students to perform, understand, and learn from examinations.

    • Social Science Courses: Responsible for teaching two of the three social science classes offered

    per semester: Social Justice with Civics, United States History, and Economics.

    • Classroom Management: Maintains sound classroom management using deescalating and

    restorative practices both in and out of class. Also, the teacher models best practices of academic

    performance and social skills.

    • Other Duties: Responsible for other duties as needed including, but not limited to, student

    management, grading, phone calls, tracking attendance, participating in professional

    development, participating in agency-wide professional development, professional learning

    communities, and developing and turning in weekly lesson plans.

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree, with 2+ years’ experience preferred.
    • A strong commitment to community service and familiarity with community education.
    • Bi-lingual Spanish is a plus, but not required.
    • Certification or enrollment in a certification course is required.
    • Proficient active listening skills to understand and adapt to students’ various learning needs.
    • Strong public speaking and oral presentation skills.
    • Excellent organization and time management skills along with strong technology skills.
