    About Women’s Audio Mission

    Women’s Audio Mission (WAM) is a San-Francisco- based nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of women and gender-expansive individuals in music technology and digital media production, a field in which these individuals are critically underrepresented (less than 5%). WAM uses music and media to attract 2,500+ women/girls/ gender-expansive individuals a year to creative technology studies/careers, and believes that women/gender-expansive individuals’ participation in creative technology will expand the voice of music and media, ensuring that women/gender-expansive individuals' views and ideas are conveyed in popular culture. Founded in 2003, WAM has grown exponentially to serve 50+ school partners across three school districts and includes two recording studios we own in San Francisco, an educational lab space in San Francisco, and global reach online to 30+ countries. WAM’s staff consists of teaching artists, audio professionals, and passionate, hard-working individuals in a combination of full time, part time, and contract roles.

    Position Summary

    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Girls on the Mic (GOTM) Program Manager will be responsible for the overall program management of the Girls on the Mic program that provides audio technology classes to girls and gender-expansive youth ages 11-18. The Program Manager ensures strong program outcomes and oversight of the GOTM instructional team, including curriculum development, collecting and maintaining accurate program data, creating program grant reports, and managing and assessing performance of the instructional staff. The ideal candidate has experience teaching youth in a classroom setting (min. 3 years), education in and experience with audio technology, a background in educational program management and experience scheduling and managing staff and school partners. The successful applicant will be someone who is passionate about our mission of advancing women, girls, and gender-expansive people in the fields of music, media, and technology.

    Primary Objectives and Responsibilities

    Program Management and Outreach (45%)

    • Manage curriculum and class activities development and documentation including in-person and on-demand modules.
    • Collects and maintains accurate student enrollment data, paperwork and attendance and enters into databases in a timely fashion with support from the Education Coordinator.
    • Provides monthly grant reports to the Executive Director (e.g. DCYF monthly report) and attends grant partners meetings (e.g. DCYF, SFUSD, OUSD).
    • Provides monthly school partner and student enrollment data to the Executive Director and at all-staff meetings.
    • Designs and implements engagement and outreach strategies for the Girls on the Mic program, including seeking new school partners and sites, finding education resources to promote GOTM, creating newsletters and social media posts and attending virtual/in-person events (e.g., school partner meetings, school project showcase fairs, Expanding Your Horizons weekend conferences)
    • Oversee equipment management for GOTM programs with support from the Education Coordinator.

    Team Management (35%)

    • Manage, schedule and supervise part time GOTM instructor team,including weekly check-ins and ensure alignment with curriculum and program outcomes.
    • Manage the ongoing Youth Program Quality Assessment (YPQA) activities with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), making sure the instructional team is prepared for external assessments and exceeding the expectations.
    • Perform regular internal performance reviews of GOTM instructional staff.
    • Coordinates networking and professional development opportunities for the GOTM instructor team.

    Instruction (15%)

    • As program needs require, provides instruction for Girls on the Mic classes, offered to middle school girls ages 11-18. Classes take place in WAM's studio and at our partner San Francisco and Oakland schools. Local travel is required between WAM’s studios, offices and school partner sites. Roughly 2-4 classes per week.

    Other (5%)

    • Participates in professional development opportunities, and skill-enhancing programs as determined by WAM’s leadership team.
    • Support other education programs when needed
    • Support WAM’s events on and offsite as needed, including conferences, Local Sirens series performances, member and donor events, major fundraisers and others.
    • General nonprofit administrative tasks associated with the effective operation of the organization.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
    • 2+ years of experience of educational program management including implementing program evaluation methods, learning outcomes and performing outreach and managing school partners.
    • 2+ years of demonstrated experience supervising and managing instructional staff, especially emerging and entry level professionals.
    • 3+ years of hands on instructional experience with youth and/or adults in classroom setting
    • Educational background and/or equivalent experience in music and audio technology
    • Experience creating and implementing course syllabi, lesson plans, and corresponding learning outcomes
    • Experience managing program budgets
    • Experience using and setting up audio software such as Garageband, Pro Tools or similar, and audio equipment such as microphones, audio interfaces, mixing consoles and speakers
    • Self-starter with demonstrated curiosity to learn new skills related to audio technology, youth development, and education technology
    • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
    • Excellent verbal and written skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bilingual in Spanish
    • Experience with culturally-responsive teaching

    Physical Requirements

    • Able to stand, work, and commute from one location to another.
    • Able to lift and carry materials up to 35 pounds.
    • Able to ascend and descend stairs carrying equipment and materials.
    • Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods.
    • Communicating with others to exchange information,
    • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
