    Creativity Explored (CE) is a studio-based collective in San Francisco that partners with developmentally disabled people to celebrate and nurture the creative potential in all of us. Founded in 1983, CE has facilitated the careers of hundreds of disabled artists and serves as a model in the field of art and disability worldwide.

    CE now serves over 140 developmentally disabled artists offering art supplies, training, exhibition, sales and licensing opportunities in traditional and digital media. CE artists have seen their work exhibited in museums, galleries, and art fairs in over 14 countries and have earned over $2 million from their art. CE's life-changing programs continue to open doors of inclusion to center the personhood and creative vision of people with developmental disabilities. Most importantly, CE is a source of community, empowerment and dignity.

    POSITION OVERVIEW

    The Development Associate position is a crucial role designed to enhance the Development Department’s ability to leverage new opportunities, cultivate relationships, and maintain high standards of excellence in all external relationships and communications. The Development Associate is responsible for providing the Development team the support needed to secure the resources necessary to meet the organization’s fundraising goals. As Board Liaison, the Development Associate is a confidential employee responsible for documenting and maintaining internal board information.

    The Development Associate has primary responsibility for donor research, gift processing and acknowledgment, donor database management, and other administrative duties.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Individual Donor Development and Management

    • Manages and maintains donor database (NetSuite) including wealth screenings, donor contact information, giving history, and tracking contact between donors and the organization
    • Enter and acknowledge all gifts to the organization
    • Supports financial and donor reports and analyses
    • Conducts research on individual prospects, as well as ongoing research in business, philanthropy, and related fields to identify potential donors and sources of donor information
    • Assists in the production of departmental mailings, including coordinating direct mail campaigns, event invitations, and email campaigns
    • Maintains donor cultivation calendar

    Foundation, Corporate, and Government Support

    • Researches foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities
    • Assists with grant reporting as needed
    • Compiles attachments for complex grant proposals
    • Maintains development files (hard and electronic copies)
    • Tracks grant awards and report timelines

    Fundraising Events

    • Assists with the planning and execution of donor cultivation events
    • Assists with the coordination and execution of the annual fundraising gala including volunteer management, tracking auction items and guest information, in-kind donation outreach and coordination

    Board of Directors

    • As a confidential employee, maintains, documents and packages internal board information and records
    • Manages administrative tasks for the Board, which include meeting logistics, scheduling, notes, minutes, and follow ups
    • Attends Board meetings and records meeting minutes
    • Ensures that Board records, correspondence, minutes, and activities are maintained
    • Works to ensure Board policy and report documentation is complete
    • Supports Board members
    • Tracks Board members’ terms and files, and ensures their confidentiality

    Other Duties

    • Assists with other development department projects as requested
    • Performs any other reasonably-related duties as requested by the Development Director

    KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

    • Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred in social service, public administration, or other related field
    • Comfort working independently and with a diverse team
    • Creative thinker and problem solver with attention to detail
    • Highly organized and motivated
    • Willingness to build a culture of fundraising by working cooperatively with board members and staff
    • Interest, enthusiasm and affinity for Creativity Explored’s mission
    • Enthusiasm to learn from and advocate for people with developmental disabilities
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive) required
    • Basic experience with graphics editing and Adobe Creative Suite a plus

    TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

    • Complete and maintain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (initial certification to be completed within 30 days of date of hire)
    • Workplace Harassment Training
    • Complete Creativity Explored staff training pertinent to position job responsibilities as assigned

    OTHER INFORMATION

    The Development Associate is a nonexempt, part time position. Most work takes place during M-F business hours but may vary due to organizational needs with a hybrid schedule in place with this position requiring 40% of their time on site at one of our studios.
