    COMMUNICATION COACH

    ABOUT US

    Family Conversations is a program for families with children from birth to age three who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing (D/HH) in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties. Our program goals are to maximize technology to help children listen and speak to the best of their ability and to utilize Signing Exact English (S.E.E.) to offer fully accessible language during a critical developmental period to set the foundation for future literacy.

    We are a cohesive and collaborative team made up of audiologists, teachers of the deaf, a Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing coach, a coach with a Deaf sibling, a parent of a Deaf child, and a native Spanish-speaker.

    We realize each family is unique and uses different methods to reach their goals for their child. Our role is to support families as they explore the many tools that can help a child learn and grow.

    JOB DETAILS

    Optional 0.8-1.0 FTE, 32-40 hours a week. year-round

    LOCATION: Various locations in Pierce, King, & Snohomish Counties

    SALARY: $75,000 - $115,000, depending on hours worked & experience (salary range based on 40 hours per week)

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Conduct weekly home visits with D/HH children from birth to 3 years old and their families
    • Provide direct services including assessments and coaching around communication strategies, listening and spoken language, sign language, language development, and parenting/developmental issues
    • Serve as an informational resource and support meeting family-identified goals on the IFSP
    • Write summary reports after coaching visits
    • Track child and family progress per IFSP outcomes, assess child development and write reports for IFSP review and annual updates
    • Organize and co-lead family groups for D/HH children enrolled in Family Conversations
    • Support families in transition to preschool by working with the parents, IFSP team and school district in compliance with WA State regulations

    EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

    Minimum Education and Experience:

    • A graduate degree in a relevant ESIT Qualified Personnel Discipline
    • Valid WA State Driver's license
    • Familiarity with signing or willingness to learn and coach families in Signing Exact English (S.E.E.) while talking, playing and singing with their children
    • Experience in early childhood education and/or child development

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Familiarity with birth-to-3 services, particularly serving D/HH children
    • Two or more years of experience working with young (0-3 years) D/HH children and their families

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of hearing levels and impact on access to, listening, speech and language development, social-emotional and cognitive development
    • Knowledge of early childhood development across domains: cognitive, motor, adaptive, social-emotional, and communication
    • Use of coaching model in natural environment
    • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
