    OVERVIEW: At Love146, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) is not just a fundraiser—they are a transformational architect, sector connector, and team builder. The CDO will be responsible for designing, executing, and laying the infrastructure to grow a fundraising strategy that integrates government funding, institutional philanthropy, corporate giving, and individual giving, including major gifts. They will be expected to immediately deliver a plan to achieve results and invest directly through their own relationships to pursue opportunities quickly leveraging connections in the anti-trafficking, human rights, child protection, and related funding landscapes

    Reporting directly to the CEO, the CDO will collaborate closely with the Executive Leadership Team and Board while leading and building a department that leverages Love146’s fundraising into a powerful engine of mission impact.     COMPENSATION: $160,000 - $175,000

    LOCATION: Remote in NY, CT, and MA. Hybrid (2 days/week in office) if location is within driving distance of New Haven.

    TRAVEL: Position entails 20% travel commitment

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    Lead Love146’s Development Team and Drive Long-Term Revenue Growth

    The inaugural CDO will lead the development and implementation of a future-ready fundraising model that aligns with the organization’s strategic priorities, financial goals, and mission to end child trafficking and exploitation.

    • Develop and manage a high-performing team with role clarity, measurable KPIs, and a culture of ownership, collaboration, and accountability.
    • Oversee a department structure with clearly defined functional verticals (government grants, institutional giving, major donors, corporate partnerships, donor operations) and seamless integration with Finance, Programs, and Communications.
    • Develop and execute a multi-channel fundraising strategy that balances short-term growth with long-term sustainability across:
      • Government funding (e.g., DOJ, OVC, VOCA, HHS)
      • Institutional philanthropy (multi-year general and program-specific support)
      • High-net-worth giving ($10K - $1M + prospects)
      • Corporate partnerships (sponsorships, cause-marketing, employee giving)
      • Monthly and long-term donor base ($50K–$60K/month in recurring gifts and thousands of loyal lower-level supporters)
      • Donor acquisition with measurable goals for growing the supporter base via deep relationship building, digital campaigns, events, partnerships, and peer networks
    • Oversee and regularly assess revenue performance, donor and grant pipelines, systems, and workflows, and identify capacity gaps and opportunities for scale.

    Lead Major Donor Cultivation and Transformational Giving

    • Design and execute a personalized major gifts strategy for 25–50 high-net-worth prospects, aligned with donor values and Love146’s long-term vision.
    • Partner with the CEO to maximize donor engagement through joint cultivation, bespoke asks, and strategic stewardship.
    • Equip Board and senior ambassadors with tools and training to engage meaningfully in major gift strategy and donor relations.
    • Identify and secure transformational investments, including multi-year, legacy, and capacity-building gifts.
    • Implement tracking systems for major gift progress, engagement depth, and donor satisfaction using Salesforce or equivalent platforms.

    Strengthen and Expand Government and Institutional Funding

    • Partner with the Grants Director, Accounting and Finance, and Chief Programs and Strategy Officer to grow a diversified portfolio of public and institutional funding.
    • Prioritize multi-year, unrestricted, and capacity-building grants aligned with Love146’s strategic goals.
    • Identify new opportunities, assess alignment, and shape pursuit strategies using real-time funding intelligence.
    • Build and steward relationships with program officers, agencies, and collaboratives, positioning Love146 as a credible and effective grantee.
    • In collaboration with a Director of Grants, monitor trends in NOFOs, RFPs, and philanthropy to drive proactive grant planning and early-stage alignment.
    • Ensure that all grant applications are submitted in a timely manner, are of high quality, and are compliant, with strong narratives, aligned budgets, and program fidelity.
    • Oversee a coordinated calendar of deadlines, renewals, and reporting milestones, ensuring seamless execution and funder satisfaction.
    • Collaborate across teams with CFO to deliver accurate reporting, financial tracking, and stewardship, sustaining long-term partnership health.

    Build Scalable Fundraising Systems and Donor Infrastructure

    • Optimize Salesforce CRM to function as a central system for donor segmentation, pipeline management, grant tracking, and performance analytics.
    • Review and optimize segmented donor journeys with tailored engagement strategies for sustainers, mid-level donors, major donors, and legacy prospects.
    • Develop SOPs across the full donor lifecycle—from acknowledgment and moves management to reporting and compliance.
    • Create integrated dashboards for revenue forecasting, donor health monitoring, and team accountability.
    • Partner with the Communications team to ensure messaging, automation, and campaign assets support donor retention, growth, and conversion.

    Serve as a Strategic Executive Leader and Organizational Partner

    • Actively contribute to executive leadership planning, annual strategy development, and cross-departmental coordination.
    • Lead the development department’s budgeting and forecasting processes; set clear revenue targets and performance metrics in alignment with strategic priorities.
    • Collaborate with the Chief Financial Officer to align revenue generation with cash flow modeling, liquidity management, and financial planning, ensuring multi-year gifts and grant structures are factored into fiscal strategy.
    • Provide the CEO, CFO, and Board with strategic revenue reporting, surfacing risks and opportunities with data-informed insights and actionable recommendations.
    • Represent Love146 in philanthropic networks, funder collaboratives, and sector forums—positioning the organization as a trusted leader in the movement to end child trafficking.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    Educational Background:

    A bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, communications, business, or a related field is preferred.

    An advanced degree (e.g., Master’s in Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related discipline) or CFRE certification is preferred.

    Professional Experience:

    • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit development, including at least 5 years in a senior fundraising leadership role with direct oversight of teams, systems, and strategy.
    • Demonstrated success in designing and executing integrated fundraising strategies across multiple channels, including government grants, foundation giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, and annual campaigns.
    • Proven ability to cultivate and close 6- and 7-figure gifts from high-net-worth individuals, philanthropic institutions, and public funders.
