    Location: Remote

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Manager, Special Projects is responsible for the execution of critical projects and tasks in support of AFSP’s programs work. This includes work in AFSP’s firearms and construction suicide prevention initiatives.

    With the support of a multi-year grant, this position will spend 50% of its time working on the AFSP construction initiative and 50% on other priority program areas including firearms suicide prevention.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manage most aspects of the Firearms suicide prevention portfolio of programs, including collaborating on key firearms-related partnerships.
    • Provide program management support to the construction initiative, completing assigned projects and tasks.
    • Engage and support chapter volunteers and staff in suicide prevention activities aimed at key groups, including firearm-owners and construction workers.
    • Identify program gaps and develop concepts for new program priorities in alignment with AFSP’s strategic plan.
    • Facilitate virtual learning collaboratives to improve self-efficacy and confidence amongst AFSP staff and volunteers related to scaling AFSP initiatives with key groups, including firearm owners and construction workers.
    • Manage a variety of projects and tasks throughout the life cycle of a program, including external vendor relationships and development of materials related to prevention education, communications and marketing, training, and other resources.
    • Collaborate with Internal and external program partners to help develop effective, clear, and easy to understand messages for a variety of audiences, ensure that messaging is research-based and evidence-informed.
    • Provide ongoing content review and updates, including collaborating with communications on developing promotional materials for a variety of stakeholders, following AFSP requirements and guidelines.
    • Attends conferences and meetings, as needed, to represent AFSP and engage with stakeholders.
    • As needed, deliver (in-person and virtually) AFSP prevention education programs to stakeholders.
    • Partner with the impact measurement team to evaluate programs and seek opportunities to respond to findings.
    • Participate in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools, and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization.
    • Prepare detailed program plans and communicating progress to partners, including status reports, milestones, deliverable, and opportunities.
    • Demonstrate a functional acumen to support how solutions will address organizational goals while maintaining alignment with industry best practices.
    • Coordinate administrative and logistical support for program initiatives (schedules, calls, data collection, documentation preparation).
    • Contribute to internal and external dialogue that advances our approach to delivering programs.
    • Actively collaborate within and across interdisciplinary teams, including teams, committees, and other efforts to support internal processes or goals, promote effective organizational culture, or build our public image and brand.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education Bachelor's degree in public health, communications, business administration or a related field

    Experience 3 years’ relevant professional experience. Lived experience as a firearm owner or professional experience working in or with the firearms industry.

    Technology/Equipment Expert user of Microsoft Office Suite, and SharePoint, Proficiency in project management software

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education Master’s degree in Public Health, Communications, or Business Administration

    Experience and/or Training 5+ years’ relevant professional experience in program managers/or communications field, implementation and execution.
