    Description

    The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Business Operations Security Program Manager in the Business Operations and Support Services unit of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY.

    The Business Operations and Support Services unit, in the office of the Chief Operating Officer, works to enable organizational and operational effectiveness by partnering with ACLU departments and staff across the enterprise to develop core business operations, training programs, support services, and provide business solutions, manage physical space planning and facilities operations, oversee capital projects, and manage records and archives services. Business Operations and Support Services continually evaluates all of these core functions to maximize resources, mitigate risk, ensure accessibility, and achieve the organization’s strategic goals.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    Reporting to the Senior Director of Business Operations, this role will lead the strategic design, implementation, ongoing management, and staff support for core security functions and programs. The Security Program Manager works in partnership with stakeholders throughout the ACLU to identify needs and improve systems and processes to increase security program effectiveness, mitigate risk, and align ACLU security operations with our core mission and values. The key program managed by the Business Operations Security Program Manger includes the physical security program. The Program Manager will also support the Vendor Management program, as well as Zendesk customer service support.

    YOUR DAY TO DAY

    • Lead the program management of the ACLUs physical security program across the ACLU Nationwide network, ensuring the program runs effectively to meet the evolving needs of staff and the organization, including identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation.
    • Lead strategy development for how the security program meets nationwide evolving security needs.
    • Lead incident response for staff and office security threats and incidents which impact National and Affiliate organizations.
    • Support Facilities Operations with Emergency Response protocols for National offices, as needed. Provide assistance to affiliate offices in reviewing Emergency Response plans.
    • Manage projects and facilitate collaboration across departments related to development and implementation of security programs, policies, and procedures.
    • Develop, document, and implement policies, procedures, and working practices.
    • Support the ACLU’s Exec Protection management for key ACLU staff and board members.
    • Conduct proactive security vulnerability planning and direct support (e.g. security consultation/guidance for individuals, offices & ACLU litigation/ACLU advocacy and organizing events).
    • Engage with event venue point persons, ACLU staff and other key stakeholders in security planning for ACLU inperson
    • meetings and convenings providing on the ground security support, as needed.
    • Guide the development of the ACLU’s physical security training and resources which includes support of CPR/First Aid training for key staff.
    • Steer physical security monitoring/threat reporting to key stakeholders across the organization.
    • Shepeard the sourcing/identification, onboarding and oversight of all physical security consultants.
    • Manage unit interns, temps, and consultants as needed.
    • Support the completion of reporting and tracking of physical security incidents across the organization.
    • Function as a thought partner and collaborator with the Senior Director of Business Operations on various tasks which involve the Business Operations unit.
    • Provide safety/security guidance for ACLU staff at National who engage in in-person speaking events.
    • Support Business Operations customer support activities as needed; including management of Gatekeeper and Zendesk platforms.
    • Complete other projects as assigned.

    WHAT YOU'LL BRING

    • Experience managing security planning and response.
    • Proven track records of successful system and process implementations in complex environments.
    • Experience managing vendors.
    • Experience designing and managing internal operational functions.
    • Experience with event facility configurations, emergency response best practices and determining venue security elements which need to be provided to ensure staff safety.
    • Strong project management skills, including managing cross functional project teams.
    • Nuanced understanding of staff lived experience with security and law enforcement and the ACLU’s unique program and policy intersections with traditional security approaches.
    • Ability to travel (10% or less/year) to provide physical security support at ACLU in-person engagements
    • Ability to quickly establish trust and rapport with staff and board members impacted by security related concerns.
    • Ability to make critical immediate decisions to assess risk, impact, and safety.
    • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
    • Strong attention to detail and follow-up, as required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience managing operational projects and programs in a large complex nonprofit organization.

    COMPENSATION

    The ACLU is committed to equity, transparency, and clarity in pay. Consistent with our compensation philosophy, there is a set salary for each role based on geographic work location. The annual salary for this position is $123,360 (Level G), reflecting the salary of a position based in New York, NY. Salaries are subject to a regional pay adjustment if authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
