    Description

    The Communications Manager is a multifaceted position leading all public-facing Communications and Outreach initiatives and supporting Development and Legislative Advocacy priorities for Children’s Advocacy Centers of Pennsylvania. This position is part of a dynamic team of Staff and Board that seeks to improve and expand services for abused children in Pennsylvania through strengthening and sustaining Children’s Advocacy Centers. The Communications Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, Communications Committee, External Affairs Committee, Development Committee, and Member CACs to represent the statewide CAC movement, develop messaging, and lead projects that advance the CAC model and mission across Pennsylvania. This is a highly creative and collaborative position. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, take initiative, think critically, offer creative ideas, engage diverse audiences, and bring people together.

    Platforms the Communications Manager will be expected to use include: social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), Wordpress website, MailChimp email newsletters, Little Green Light donor database, Donorbox donation forms, Givebutter fundraising pages, and Canva Pro design. PennCAC contracts with consultants as needed for content, website development, design, and print/mail.

    GENERAL POSITION INFORMATION

    Title: Communications Manager

    Job Type: Full-Time

    Salary: $55,000–$65,000 per year (commensurate with education and experience)

    1. Work Location: The Communications Manager must reside in Pennsylvania and may work remotely, but will be required to travel to Harrisburg as needed for events and to State College for two in-person meetings each year. An office location is available in Harrisburg for supplies, printing, and on-site work as needed. Employees are expected to track 5 hours

    per week. While the position offers flexibility within normal business hours, a typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 4:30PM.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Lead Communications and Marketing Initiatives [60%]

    • Maintain Chapter branding assets and support Staff, Board, and Members to ensure quality and consistent organizational identity across platforms and publications
    • Work with Communications Committee and consultants as needed to create and implement an annual Communications & Outreach plan to elevate the Chapter’s mission and vision with stakeholders, including Member CACs, public audiences, legislators and policy makers, and donors—to include monthly content for social media, topical blog content, marketing email, and seasonal campaigns
    • Maintain a comprehensive social media presence for the Chapter, including regular content as well as seasonal campaigns, working with consultants as needed and managing paid ad budget to increase reach and results during campaigns
    • Build public audience via new social media followers, email subscribers, and campaign contacts
    • Manage Chapter website to maintain consistent organizational identity, provide information about CACs and child abuse, and create regular blog content and seasonal campaign landing pages for engagement and resources
    • Create an Annual Report each year highlighting Chapter achievements and distribute in print and/or digitally, working with consultants as needed
    • Create regular MailChimp email newsletters to highlight Chapter activities, promote CACs, and engage audiences during campaigns
    • Lead April Child Abuse Prevention Month outreach, providing messaging and materials to raise awareness about child abuse and support CAC outreach
    • Lead summer SHINE Campaign during August and September to raise awareness about child abuse, support survivors, and promote the CAC model, engaging Member CACs for statewide reach and impact
    • Participate in regional cohorts and liaison with NCA and other State Chapters as needed to share resources and collaborate
    • Develop and maintain good rapport with other statewide victim service agencies and nonprofit partners, attending events and creating opportunities for shared outreach
    • Write and submit media-focused content such as press releases and opinion pieces to promote the CAC model and provide contacts for interviews or stories when requested; provide templates for CACs to use in media outreach for campaigns and legislative advocacy
    • Monitor news sources for media coverage of child abuse cases and follow up with Member CACs as needed to determine if appropriate to share
    • Work with Executive Director and Board liaison to facilitate monthly Communications Committee meetings to engage Member CACs, identify statewide projects, and develop collaborative messaging
    • Provide peer support opportunities for Member CAC staff responsible for communications and outreach, maintaining shared Canva team and facilitating resource sharing; provide technical assistance for communications and design as needed
    • Manage annual marketing budget, including contracts and invoices for design, print/mail, and social media consultants

    Lead Development Initiatives [15%]

    • Work with Executive Director and Development Committee to set annual fundraising goal and determine strategy
    • Lead annual SHINE fundraising campaign, including sponsor appeals, walk fundraising page, materials, event logistics, and all promotional communications
    • Support other opportunities as needed, creating fundraising pages, graphics, and sponsor placements
    • Manage Little Green Light donor database to track gift information, providing monthly/annual reports and mailing lists as needed
    • Create and manage donation forms, confirmation emails, and receipts
    • Coordinate staff to engage local business community by attending Chamber of Commerce and other partnership development events as needed

    Support Legislative Advocacy & Government Relations [15%]

    • Work with Executive Director, External Affairs Committee, and consultants to track relevant legislative action, identify priorities, and determine outreach strategy
    • Develop messaging for legislative outreach, including talking points, supporting materials, media op-eds, templates and scripts for Member CAC engagement
    • Assist with Hill Day or other events as needed to plan and implement

    Support Chapter Staff and Activities [10%]

    • Attend weekly staff meetings, monthly director’s calls, and quarterly membership meetings as required, report on campaign results, and promote opportunities for CACs to participate in statewide outreach
    • Support Chapter training and technical assistance activities as needed with promotional communications and document design
    • Work with consultants to secure estimates and contracts following Chapter policies
    • Work with staff to track and manage marketing budget needs and expenses, submit invoices, and provide input to maximize Chapter resources for communications and outreach initiatives
    • Support special projects such as conferences or events as needed, providing writing, editing, and design support for materials and participating in planning and execution of logistics

    Other Duties may be required as needed.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    REQUIRED skills & experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, or a related field; and minimum 3 years professional experience
    • Familiarity with nonprofit organizations
    • Exceptional written and verbal skills, with an understanding of audience and voice
    • Ability to craft strategic messages, using data and storytelling in compelling ways
    • Comfortable with public speaking
    • Strong interpersonal skills for networking, partnership development, and donor relations
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines, highly organized, detail-oriented, ability to work independently as well as with a team
    • Ability to work closely with consultants to achieve project deliverables
    • Ability to manage a marketing budget and work with Finance & HR Manager to secure contracts, submit invoices, and track expenses
    • Ability to use a computer: proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Power Point, Outlook, and online video conferencing platforms
    • Familiarity with social media content creation and management, email marketing, donor processes, and creative design platforms
    • Must have a current driver’s license and be able to travel as needed for events, projects, and in-person meetings

    Background in the following is DESIRED, but not required:

    • Familiarity with the Children’s Advocacy Center model of response to child abuse
    • Knowledge of dynamics of child physical and sexual abuse and impact child abuse has on child victims
    • Experience with creative design for graphics, reports, and marketing materials
    • Experience leading marketing campaigns

    Established in 2007, Children's Advocacy Centers of Pennsylvania (PennCAC) is a nationally accredited, statewide nonprofit with a mission to strengthen the CAC movement and ensure that all children experiencing abuse have a chance to be safe, feel heard, and start to heal. We provide support for a coalition of 40 local CACs who together served 14,590 child victims last year. As the State Chapter, we offer training to CAC staff and child abuse response professionals across many disciplines, advocate for CACs with legislators and policy makers, and raise public awareness about child abuse and survivor resources.
