    Description

    FLEXIBLE LEADERSHIP POSITION

One Fair Wage is a national organization of nearly 300,000 restaurant and service workers, nearly 1,000 restaurant owners, and dozens of organizations working together to end all subminimum wages in the United States and to raise wages and working conditions for the country’s 14 million restaurant workers.

Restaurant industry workers are required to participate in food service handling certification as a criteria for employment. One Fair Wage has thus built the Food Worker Training Cooperative (LLC) and an initial training product Just.Safe.Food, ensuring that training focuses on the true needs and rights of workers. We are excited to see it reach millions of restaurant workers across the country.

    The Opportunity

One Fair Wage is looking for a leader to manage the Food Worker Training Cooperative LLC, a social purpose business designed to provide low-cost, high-quality food safety training to millions of restaurant workers. This position may be structured as a part time staff role or contract position. The leader will manage the launch of the Just.Safe.Food training product, building from California to states across the country, evolving and expanding the product over time.

The ideal candidate for this position is strategic, energetic, and innovative, with experience in start-up, marketing and business plan development. The candidate will bring strong organizational, relationship management, and planning skills to this role. We are open to business school students or those earlier in their career who are looking for an opportunity to launch a new endeavor and build their leadership on an exciting endeavor.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The leadership role includes:

    • Collaborate with Food Service Training Cooperative co-founder and One Fair Wage President on launch
    • Develop and implement a business plan with financial projections for company launch
    • Manage marketing to reach a broad user base of food service workers, leveraging relationship with One Fair Wage members
    • Bring customers to the site to become revenue positive in first year
    • Manage ANSI accreditation requirements for training
    • Expand training from California pilot to additional states
    • Pitch project to potential investors
    • Ensure high quality and easy-to-utilize training products, including through relationship with our Learning Management System

    Qualifications

    • Business and marketing knowledge and experience: Must have experience crafting and managing business plans and financial projections, and designing and implementing marketing plans.
    • Ability to think creatively: Provide strategy and suggestions.
    • Manage a high volume of work with efficiency: Has, or can create, a system for keeping tasks from slipping through the cracks. Able to juggle competing demands and prioritize without sacrificing quality. Plans backward to make deadlines.
    • Entrepreneurial and resourceful: Consistently overcomes challenges and leverages resources to creatively solve problems. Proposes solutions to issues without much guidance (but isn’t afraid to ask questions). Proactively asks for help, anticipates problems, and course-corrects where needed.
    • Attention to detail: Notices and fixes errors that others might overlook. Acknowledges mistakes and turns them into learning opportunities. Has a track record of leaving things better than they found them.
    • Strong sense of ownership and resilience: Plans ahead and finds alternative paths, when needed, to get to the finish line. Bounces back from setbacks and rejections. Holds a high bar even when things are hectic.
    • Trustworthiness and realness: Come across as genuine. That says what they mean. Builds authentic relationships across lines of difference, such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, class, ability, gender identity, citizenship status, or other identities. Follow through on commitments.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity in our organization. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status and will provide reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment.
