    Description

    The Authors Guild Foundation, the nonprofit arm of the nation’s oldest and largest professional writers' organization, is seeking a Development Associate to support fundraising, database management (Raiser’s Edge NXT), donor relations, and event logistics. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team dedicated to defending free expression, fighting book bans, and advancing literary programming nationwide.

    This is a hybrid position. The ideal candidate will live in the NYC metropolitan area.

    Key Responsibilities

    Database Management & Development Operations

    • Enter and maintain accurate donor data, gifts, pledges, and event details in Raiser’s Edge NXT.
    • Generate gift acknowledgments and support timely donor stewardship efforts.
    • Produce regular fundraising and financial reports for the Executive Director and CEO.
    • Assist in developing procedures and training materials for data entry and management.
    • Support financial processing including invoices, credit card reconciliation, and monthly reporting in coordination with the finance department.
    • Assist with donor research, prospect profiles, and campaign tracking.

    Events Coordination

    • Assist in planning and executing a wide range of fundraising and cultivation events, including the Gala, WIT Literary Festival, Pascal Hall series, Guild Nights, and smaller receptions.
    • Manage event logistics such as RSVPs, guest lists, vendor coordination, materials preparation, and follow-up communications.
    • Support onsite logistics and provide a seamless experience for event attendees.
    • Coordinate venue and vendor relationships, assist with contracts and timelines, and ensure event deliverables are met.

    Donor Communications & Engagement

    • Manage mailing lists and segmentation for appeals and donor outreach.
    • Draft donor correspondence, including acknowledgments and campaign mailings.
    • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and preferences.
    • Prepare tailored materials and briefing memos for donor meetings and stewardship initiatives.

    Administrative Support

    • Provide administrative assistance to the Executive Director, including scheduling and meeting coordination.
    • Draft committee meeting notes and track project timelines.
    • Support additional development projects and initiatives as needed.

    Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with Raiser’s Edge (NXT and database view) in a nonprofit setting.
    • Applications that do not meet this requirement will not be considered.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • High attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for events.

    Preferred:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Familiarity with or interest in the literary world.
    • Passion for free expression and the mission of the Authors Guild Foundation.
