Salary Range: $170,000 - $185,000 per year

Overall Responsibilities:

The Vice President (VP) of Workforce Development is a strategic leader responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing impactful workforce programs tailored to individuals overcoming significant barriers to employment. The Workforce Development Program is a key component of Project Renewal’s continuum of services, aimed at ending the cycle of homelessness by empowering individuals and families to renew their lives. This role integrates visionary leadership with operational expertise, focusing on financial management, development of strategic partnerships, program innovation, and data-driven outcomes. The VP will lead programs that encompass pre-employment services, employment training across various sectors, and ongoing skill development for those who want to deepen skills sets.

The Workforce Development department annually enrolls over 600 adults, focusing on individuals facing significant barriers to employment, including those with histories of homelessness, substance use challenges, underemployment, mental health diagnoses and justice system involvement. Through a personalized and comprehensive approach, the Workforce Development department works one-on-one with each client to minimize barriers and prepare them for sustainable employment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The essential duties of the VP, Workforce Development, include but are not limited to the following activities:

• • Leadership and Strategy: Direct the Workforce Development department, creating a vision for a comprehensive continuum of employment services, building and expanding on current programming.
  • Expand program reach by partnering with the development team on fundraising strategy, cultivating relationships with key funders, and expanding connections to external companies for internship and employment placements.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to guide strategic planning for the department, execute strategies to integrate services across Project Renewal, while championing innovative and equitable programming that meets the needs of our clients.
  • Financial Management and Fiscal Strategy: Develop, manage, and oversee departmental budget, including fiscal allocations and private funder revenue models.
  • Designate contract funding, establish funding goals, and manage spending to align with organizational objectives.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and ensure compliance with funder requirements, in partnership with the Development and Fiscal teams.
  • Partnership Development and Engagement: Lead contract negotiations and develop strong relationships with funders, community partners, and government agencies.
  • Create strategies for funder engagement, including meetings, reporting, and budget oversight.
  • Assist in responding to grant applications and RFPs.
  • Oversee the Business Advisory Committee and special initiatives, such as New York Community Trust projects.
  • Program Development and Innovation: Design and implement workforce development programs, emphasizing innovative approaches to employment programs that are tailored to meet the needs of project renewal clients.
  • Set annual goals for the department and monitor program outcomes to ensure effectiveness.
  • Manage consultants and oversee projects that support the organization’s mission and impact.
  • Data Management and Systems Development: Oversee and prioritize projects to enhance Salesforce and other data systems for tracking and reporting.
  • Work directly with the Development and Performance Evaluation teams to create reports for grants and funders, explaining program outcomes.
  • Utilize data systems to monitor program outcomes and department performance to guide programmatic decisions.
  • Team and Staffing Structure: Build and manage a high-performing staffing structure that supports departmental strategy and growth.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to staff, fostering a mission-driven and collaborative culture.
  • Effectively coach and manage underperforming staff using a quality improvement mentality.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Workforce Development, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• At least 10 years of senior leadership experience in workforce development, nonprofit management, or social services.
• Expertise in financial management, contract negotiation, and systems development.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and evaluate workforce programs with measurable outcomes.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing DEI principles and serving vulnerable communities.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven adaptability, with the ability to adjust strategies and lead effectively through organizational changes, shifting funding priorities, and evolving workforce needs.
• Demonstrated empathy and emotional intelligence, with the ability to lead diverse teams and understand the lived experiences of program participants.
• Strong inspirational communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams, engage stakeholders, and effectively advocate for programs and mission.
