    Description

    Purpose of the Position: The Membership Growth, Development, and Volunteer Manager plays a key leadership role in fostering a vibrant, growing, and deeply connected congregational community. The Membership Growth, Development, and Volunteer Manager will work with the Executive Director and Senior Minister (Executive Team) to oversee new member integration, support strong financial support from our members and donors, foster volunteer engagement, and ensure alignment with the church’s mission and strategic goals. The ideal candidate is relational, organized, spiritually mature, systems-oriented, and passionate about helping others connect and serve. The position does not have any direct reports, but coordinates frequently with the Program and Operations Assistant for communication and other necessary functions.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Membership & Engagement (~ 20 hours)

    • Leads the development and implementation of ASC comprehensive growth plan, developed in coordination with the ET, Board, and lay leaders
      • Identifies opportunities for systems improvement
      • Reduces barriers to entry for new attendees
      • Creates a culture of radical hospitality, including the re-establishment of a food and refreshment hospitality team
      • Creates tools to foster membership growth
      • Finds opportunities for community partnerships
      • Works with lay leaders to connect new members to their ministries
      • Leads the new membership process
      • Leads strategic projects aligned to growth
    • Lead efforts to welcome, orient, and integrate new members into the life of the church.
    • Serve as the welcoming face to our community by being a visible and inviting presence on Sunday.
    • Serve as a welcoming ambassador, answering visitors’ questions and connecting them with our community.
    • Coordinate membership and community-building programs, follow-up processes, and one-on-one engagement pathways.
    • Maintain accurate membership records and analytics to inform ministry strategies.
    • Work with pastoral staff to shepherd members and encourage deeper involvement.
    • Identify, implement, develop, and maintain systems that support member engagement.
    • Liaise with the ASCU Membership Secretary, Ushers, Church Council to ensure positive member engagement.

    Development & Stewardship (~ 10 hours)

    • Advise ET on membership and database insights that will inform the ET’s implementation of stewardship and fundraising plans.
    • Manage donor database and reporting tools to track giving trends and donor communications.
    • Provide first level support for member and friend financial inquiries.
    • Help communicate to our members and congregation on fundraising initiatives, capital campaigns, and legacy giving programs.
    • Develop special communication materials such as for the pledge drive or major marketing materials
    • Develops messaging and imaging for programs across the ministries of the church
    • Collaborates with ASCU staff to ensure clear and effective communications with all stakeholders

    Volunteer Coordination (~ 10 hours)

    • Support a culture of volunteerism across all ministries and events.
    • Maintain a centralized volunteer database and scheduling system.
    • Develop volunteer appreciation programs.
    • Collaborate with ministry leaders to assess needs and place volunteers effectively.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelors' degree or equivalent combination of experience and/or education
    • 5-10 years of relevant work experience

    • Passion for ministry and a commitment to serving a church community of various faith traditions and religious backgrounds
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities
    • Knowledge of church administration and best practices
    • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, build trust, and navigate sensitive conversations with compassion.

    Benefits include health insurance, retirement contribution, life insurance, long-term disability, and a professional expense account. Currently, health insurance is a 90/10 split. The church provides a 10% annual contribution to the UUA retirement plan after the first year of employment.
