    Description

Homebase is seeking a part-time (approximately 20-25 hours per week) grant writer/coordinator or contractor to lead development of proposals and grant applications to support our efforts to build community capacity to end homelessness.

This is a temporary position through the end of 2025 while our full-time grant writer/communications manager is on leave. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous development and grant writing experience looking for a remote position with a flexible schedule, with the potential to turn into a permanent role.

    About the Position

This position will lead tracking, coordination, drafting, and submission of applications for grant funding and proposals in response to RFP/RFQs related to addressing the crisis of homelessness. This is a dynamic position at a flexible and supportive organization that will work closely with members of the leadership team, including Homebase directors and executive director, as well as the business operations team.

Compensation for this position starts at $45/hour. We also offer a robust benefits package, including a 403(b) match, health insurance, and generous PTO. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled. This position is remote.

    About Homebase

Homebase is a national nonprofit dedicated to the social problem of homelessness. Our mission is to end homelessness, prevent its recurrence, and decrease its effect on communities. We work at the local, state, and national levels to support our partners in designing systems and implementing responses to homelessness while fostering collaboration and collective impact in addressing its political and economic causes.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with Homebase management and business operations staff to manage a dynamic portfolio of proposals and grant applications.
    • Lead the drafting of proposals and grant applications on behalf of Homebase to expand resources available to effectively address homelessness.
    • Coordinate all aspects of the proposal and grant applications processes including developing a workplan and timeline for submission, collecting relevant information from program staff, substantial writing and editing of proposals, requesting budget estimates, compiling application materials, and ensuring timely submission.
    • Cultivate an understanding of Homebase’s mission and the complex, intersectional landscape of local, state, and national resources and strategies for addressing housing instability and homelessness.
    • Monitor relevant federal, state and local public and private funding opportunities and coordinating with directors regarding which opportunities to pursue.
    • Drafting materials for communications and business development as needed.
    • Other support as needed to grow Homebase’s funding for preventing and ending homelessness in the communities we serve.

    Qualifications

    Successful candidates ideally possess:

    • At least 5+ years of experience with nonprofit grant writing or development, with a proven track record of successful proposals to foundations, government agencies, and other partners.
    • Experience with grant writing related to homelessness or housing insecurity, or a related field, or other background or experience working with homelessness response systems and continuums of care is a strong plus.
    • Exceptional writing, editing, and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate persuasively to a variety of audiences.
    • Strong project management, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team in a sometimes fast-paced environment.
    • Creativity and effective strategic thinking, flexibility and interest in developing extensive knowledge of the systems serving people experiencing homelessness.
    • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple ongoing projects under strict deadlines.
    • Ability to succeed in a warm and supportive team-based environment.

    Homebase prefers candidates with:

    • Demonstrated commitment to the public interest and passion for addressing homelessness and poverty.
    • Special consideration will be given to applicants with lived experience of housing instability, homelessness, and/or criminal justice involvement, including arrest and conviction records.

We encourage you to apply, even if you are not sure you meet all these qualifications. You may have knowledge and experiences not specifically listed here that would support our mission, and we would love to see your application!
