    Senior Legislative Officer/Director of Legislative Affairs, Government Relations Program

    NTI – a global security organization driving systemic solutions to nuclear, biological, and emerging technology threats imperiling humanity – is seeking a Senior Legislative Officer or Director of Legislative Affairs (title to be determined based on candidate experience) to join the Government Relations Program team.

    This position reports to the Vice President for the Government Relations Program. This is a full-time hybrid position, working a minimum of three days a week in our Washington, DC office.

    The Senior Legislative Officer or Director for Legislative Affairs will manage NTI advocacy efforts relating to nuclear and biological security, as well as emerging technologies at the intersection of nuclear and biological security.

    This position is crucial in helping shape NTI’s legislative and policy strategy, building relationships with policymakers, and facilitating NTI perspectives in legislative processes at the federal level. This will include:

    • Working with the Vice President for Government Relations and program leadership to support development of NTI-wide legislative education and outreach strategy, aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.
    • Leading education and advocacy efforts through congressional engagement support, preparing correspondence, developing strategies and campaigns, educational outreach, public speaking and representing the organization in meetings with key stakeholders.
    • Building relationships with relevant members in the U.S. House and Senate and their staffers, as well as collaborating with other internal and external stakeholders to amplify NTI’s advocacy goals.
    • Attending legislative hearings, briefings, and meetings and conducting research and analysis on legislative trends, policies, and developments that impact mission goals.
    • Preparing memos, policy briefs, and talking points on legislative issues.
    • Working closely with leadership and staff to align advocacy efforts with organization programs and priorities.
    • Ensuring compliance with all relevant lobbying laws and regulations.

    What are the requirements for the position? Preferred candidates will have:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field.
    • A minimum of 6 years of experience in legislative affairs, public policy, or advocacy, preferably within a non-profit or similar setting.
    • A strong understanding of the legislative and policymaking landscape.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex policy issues to diverse audiences.
    • A passion for advancing NTI’s mission through strategic advocacy in the context of a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
    • This position may be required to register as a lobbyist.

    • A proven track record working with a team to deliver successful advocacy and relationship-building with policymakers and stakeholders.
    • Interest and experience in national security, in particular in reducing nuclear, biological, and emerging technology threats.

    Hiring pay range: $122,600 - $164,000, dependent on hiring title and prior experience. This position is eligible for health insurance benefits, as well as other generous benefits that are part of the NTI compensation package.
