    Description

    Abode, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a Volunteer Program Manager for our programs in Alameda County.

    About The Role: The Volunteer Program Manager position is an integral part of Abode’s efforts to raise awareness of our mission to end homelessness, and to seek donations, volunteers, and community support for our programs. The Volunteer Program Manager will provide oversight and coordination of Abode’s volunteer activities including the supporting shelter, housing sites, and other housing programs across seven counties. They will lead volunteer recruitment and recognition to fully integrate volunteer opportunities into Abode’s programs. This position will collaborate closely with other members of the community relations team, senior leadership, and members of the community throughout the counties Abode serves.

    How You Make An Impact:

    • Manage Abode’s volunteer program. This includes crafting volunteer job positions, recruiting, screening, interviewing, orienting, and placing volunteers into areas of program need. Assess and survey Abode program staff regularly. Suggest, implement and maintain a volunteer database to schedule and track volunteer efforts.
    • Lead efforts to recognize volunteer contributions to our mission through events and other recognition activities. Steward volunteers and inkind donors to increase retention rate and involvement with the organization.
    • Work with the VP of Fundraising and Communications to craft a volunteer program recruitment strategy in order to expand to all seven counties Abode serves.
    • Mange two direct reports currently serving volunteers in Santa Clara and Alameda counties.
    • Represent Abode at public presentations, community tabling events and meetings as needed.
    • Solicit in-kind donations for various annual events (back-to-school, holidays, Candlelight Vigil) and coordinate with development coordinators to update donor database with accurate donor information and to record monetary and in-kind donations.
    • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with other nonprofit agencies, service organizations, and faith-based communities.
    • Assist community relations team to help plan and staff Abode fundraising events.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    How You Meet Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree, or related experience in volunteer management.
    • Two years of volunteer management experience.
    • Experience in organizing and managing volunteer program efforts and events.
    • Reliable transportation and proof of valid California Driver's License and current auto insurance, along with a clean DMV record.
