9to5 Action Fund seeks an experienced Organizer based in Southwest Georgia. This organizer will be responsible for organizing in Albany, Georgia, primarily around climate and environmental change to mobilize voters as part of 9to5 Action Fund’s broader objective of advocating for gender, racial, and economic justice.
We’re looking for an emerging leader passionate about lessening the utility burden on Albanians and advocating for energy efficiency programs. These programs may include upgrading and retrofitting homes, changing local and state policies regarding utilities, and introducing clean energy solutions to lessen the impact of high energy rates. Ideal candidates are from and/or reside in Albany or Dougherty County, have experience working with underserved communities, and are looking to build careers in social justice, environmental health, environmental justice, and similar fields. This position will also assist with Albany municipal elections and GOTV programs by connecting the need for environmental justice with civic engagement.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Membership Recruitment/Development:
- Coordinate and conduct outreach programs designed to reach residents affected by high utility bills. This outreach will involve door-to-door canvassing, phone calls, emails, and attending community events.
- Recruit and engage members, conduct trainings that identify and develop member leaders, and ensure consistent turnout and active participation of members in campaign activities
- Support and facilitate regular 9to5 Action Fund membership meetings, training sessions, neighborhood meetings, and other general membership events.
- Support the Albany municipal races and any campaigns members are pursuing.
- Input data about events, new contacts, and member engagement regularly into our system.
- Support volunteers, members, and canvassers involved in making change for working women and their families.
- Strategically weave base building into all chapter activities, campaigns, and events.
- Work with colleagues to maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, appearances, and other communication opportunities.
- Nurture relationships with partners and members.
Campaign and Election Support/Development:
- Research policy issues related to utility bills at the municipal, county, state, and federal levels of government.
- Provide support, drafts, and presentations related to campaign work.
- Provide guidance on fact sheets and other communications tools related to members' engagement and education.
- Develop and launch canvassing for GOTV and municipal elections.
- Research and analyze civic data to develop strong municipal, regional, or statewide voter engagement plans, which are then executed in close collaboration with relevant staff and canvassers.
- Work with volunteers and members to embed civic engagement goals alongside yearlong issue campaigns.
- Ensure that civic engagement and GOTV goals are met.
- Recruit, onboard, support, and manage a strong team of canvassers and volunteers.
- Manage and coordinate the receipt of all civic engagement data, including event RSVPs and data from VR & GOTV.
- Ensure all required data is entered into 9to5’s database, Civi CRM, and coordinate any appropriate follow-up.
- Ensure relevant volunteers and members attend mandatory training.
- Create and maintain a calendar of civic engagement trainings and activities for colleagues, members, canvassers, and volunteers.
- Create and maintain an internal civic engagement assessment tool to help measure and monitor local and state progress and impact over time.
Grassroots Fundraising:
- Coordinate or support grassroots fundraising events and donor relationships.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to environmental justice, environmental health, and/or social, racial, and economic justice.
- At least two years of organizing experience with a community, labor, or women’s organization is preferred.
- Good planning skills, time management, ability to work independently, ability to prioritize work, and ability to account for results.
- Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience with issue-based policy campaigns.
- Available to work evenings and weekends, depending on campaign needs.
- Strong database management skills preferred.
- Ability to use and access Zoom, Google Drive applications, and database programs.
- Must have quality internet and phone access on a daily basis.
- Comfort taking initiative and ability to think outside the box to find solutions and resources.
- Experience coordinating projects with multiple partners/stakeholders, and experience working directly with community members from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and the ability to meet multiple deadlines. Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Google Slides, Google Drive, Zoom and various social media platforms.
- Access to a vehicle, driving, and/or reliable transportation to meetings, events, and other in-person requirements, as this position is hybrid.
