    OVERVIEW

    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Fundraising & Communications provides leadership, strategy, and execution of its fundraising and communication plans to advance Metro Housing’s mission. The position is responsible for creating and achieving fundraising goals and objectives, expanding donor relations, connecting with the community, and leading the department.

    This is a hybrid position where you will work a minimum of two (2) days per week in the office at 1411 Tremont Street Boston, MA. Hybrid work schedule may change and you will be notified by your supervisor.

    REPORTS TO: Executive Director

    RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE

    Basic Functions: The primary emphasis of this position is fundraising. This position is responsible for designing and implementing a fundraising and communications strategy for the organization. The job is to increase our foundation, corporate, and private grants and donations and to share Metro Housing’s impact, programs, and stories to engage funders and potential funders in support of our mission.

    Responsibilities:

    • Research, develop, write, assemble, submit, and track grant applications and reports to foundations and corporations.
    • Develop and conduct campaigns that increase the organization's donor base and donations.
    • Create and implement a fundraising strategy that allows the organization to meet and exceed its fundraising objectives.
    • Build a major donor program by identifying new donors and cultivating relationships that result in long term funding potential.
    • Cultivate individual, foundation, and corporate giving opportunities.
    • Recommend and execute plans for fundraising and donor recognition events.
    • Oversee a communications and marketing strategy to effectively educate the public about our work and impact on communities.
    • Engaging in meetings and presentations with community officials and donors.
    • Provide input for the annual budget including fundraising expenses and incomes.
    • Mentor and manage the fundraising and communications team

    Qualifications:

    • 7+ years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in major gifts, corporate and individual giving, and monthly giving programs;
    • Experience with foundation relations, grant writing, and strategic stewardship activities;
    • A professional and resourceful style with the ability to work independently and as a team;
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at one time and produce superior work on deadline;
    • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time;
    • Demonstrated success closing five and six figure gifts;
    • Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic fundraising plan and volunteer engagement plan;
    • Flexible and adaptable style;
    • A leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives;
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral;
    • Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships;
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail;
    • High energy and passion for Metro Housing’s mission is essential;
    • Customer and donor focus;
    • High degree of comfort working in a small, fast-paced shop that encompasses a diverse, high-functioning team;
    • Experience working with diverse, low-income populations; and Familiarity with the Boston and Massachusetts philanthropic community preferred.

    PREFERENCE GIVEN TO

    • Candidates with previous non-profit or public service/government experience.
    • Candidates with multilingual skills (verbal and written). We are seeking candidates that speak and write English and at least one of the following languages (for interpreting and translation): Vietnamese, Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese, Cantonese, Mandarin, Toisanese, and Spanish.
    • Candidates who live within two miles of our headquarters at Roxbury Crossing in Boston.
