    Description

    Garden Educator

    Location: Boston and Cambridge, MA

    Reports to: Program Director

    Salary: We offer Garden Educators a choice to work a 10-month or 12-month year, $48,245 for the full year (school year plus Green Team for six weeks of the summer), OR $42,500 to work the 10-month school year ONLY. Both options maintain full-time benefits.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Teaching

    • Teach our garden science curriculum to children in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade in our school gardens in Boston and Cambridge
    • Serve as a site lead for middle school summer programming
    • Partner with classroom teachers and school science specialists to make the school learning garden an integral part of children’s educational experience

    Gardening

    • Work with our Operations staff to maintain a thriving learning garden at their schools
    • Grow a variety of edible crops, flowers, herbs, and perennials in school gardens throughout the growing season

    Required Knowledge & Skills

    • Strong desire to foster a joyful learning environment for all students
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Cultural sensitivity and respect for differences
    • Deep listening and clear communication
    • Commitment to ongoing learning and growth as an educator
    • Readiness to do physical work outside, undeterred by inclement weather

    Preferred Experience and Skills

    • 2-4 years experience teaching elementary-aged children, particularly science or environmental education
    • Gardening experience

    Valued Experience and Skills

    • Group management experience
    • Multilingual speaker of Spanish or another language frequently spoken in Boston and Cambridge
    • Experience working in inclusion settings with diverse learners
    • Gardening skills
