    The Federation is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with a variety of skill sets who wants to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement.

    ROLE SUMMARY

    The Senior Accountant assists in the month-end close, prepares journal entries and account reconciliations, and assists with the annual audit related to the Jewish Community Federation’s general operations and supporting foundations. The Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing both internal and external reporting, coordinating capital calls, and maintain up-to-date and accurate records for all funds and supporting foundations. This role also provides administrative support for the Investment and Foundations Teams and maintaining interaction with third-party service providers and investment managers.

    The Senior Accountant is expected to be on-site Wednesday & Thursday, the role reports to Sr. Accounting Manager.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    General Operations

    • Monitor fund cash balances.
    • Reconcile assigned bank accounts.
    • Maintain organized and thorough files to support investment transactions and accounting records for quarterly financial statements.
    • Assist in the preparation of weekly and monthly account reconciliations and timely research of variances or unusual transactions.
    • Prepare quarterly Supporting Foundation financial statements.
    • Assist in the month-end close, preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and the annual audit.
    • Review and check data to validate accuracy and completeness of data used in reporting.
    • Prepare routine accounting entries for foundations, investments and other operating activities.
    • Assist in monitoring and following up on any accounting issues and coordinate with external tax preparer.
    • Coordinate information flow with third-party service providers.
    • Respond to requests for information and carry out special projects as assigned.
    • Liaison with the building’s manager’s accounting group, including: importing and reviewing the buildings’ monthly financial transactions, recording them in the general ledger, and ensuring the proper recording and depreciation of capital projects. Coordinate OPEX funding of the 121 Steuart Street building with the building manager.

    Fixed Assets and Capital Projects

    • Prepare journal entries for fixed assets and maintain the fixed assets schedule.
    • Responsible for all aspects of accounting relating to capital projects and capitalization policy.
    • Review invoices related to capital projects to ensure proper coding and within budget.

    Audit and Compliance

    • Assist in the annual preparation of audit schedules and notes to financial statements.
    • Assist in the preparation of forms 990 and 990-T.
    • Preparation and filing forms 571-L, and Welfare Exemption forms.
    • Complete annual and quarterly census filings.

    Other Projects

    • Other projects & tasks assigned by the Accounting Manager, Director of Finance, Controller, and/or the CFO.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

    • Knowledge of investment accounting is strongly preferred.
    • Strong and effective communication skills to deal directly with vendors and all levels of staff and management.
    • Technical skills and experience in financial reporting, consolidation, and investment accounting.
    • Strong attention to detail to ensure a high degree of accuracy.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Ability to multi-task to balance multiple requests without losing sight of overall objectives and deadlines.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), accounting software (e.g., NetSuite), and donor database software (e.g., Salesforce).

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in reconciliation, nonprofit accounting, or fund accounting.
    • Experience working with Microsoft Office 365, Salesforce, NetSuite, preferred.
