    Description

    The role of the TASC Coordinator is to manage BWC’s Teens Acting for Social Change program, providing mentorship, community building, political education, organizing training, and a Jewish home to young people in 8th-12th grade. The TASC Coordinator works to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for young people to develop their leadership and organizing skills while building community with each other. The TASC coordinator also helps to create an avenue for youth voice and cross pollination both within BWC and with youth organizing and social justice organizing in the broader community.

    The TASC program is held for two hours on Sunday mornings across 16 sessions over the course of the school year culminating in a spring project (see examples below), and includes a one-night overnight weekend retreat in the fall. Sunday morning sessions run between September-June, with planning and recruitment for the program starting in August.

    Past examples of spring projects lead by teens with the support of the coordinator:

    • creating a workshop on gender identity for the our Sunday school parents and BWC community at large
    • supporting a local grassroots community campaign

    TASC COORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Steward and lead a teen leadership program focused on social justice, community engagement, and Jewish cultural exploration through using existing TASC materials as well as by developing new engaging curricula, and prep materials for sessions.
    • Provide mentorship, leadership skills building, community building, political education and organizing training to 11-15 teens in 8th-12th grade
    • Facilitate bi- to tri-weekly Sunday sessions (10:30 am-12:30 pm), guiding teens to design and lead their own activities
    • Work with youth to plan a weekend retreat and a spring social justice project.
    • As needed, work with teens and their families on issues that come up during sessions such as bullying, positive attitude, learning differences, etc
    • Cultivate partnerships with local social justice and youth organizations in order to identify opportunities for taking action.
    • Create opportunities for teens to participate in the broader BWC community and local social justice campaigns. Manage the TASC administrative needs such as:
      • creating the year schedule with your supervisor,
      • coordinating the building use with the operations director
      • photographing the work of the teens and sending the photos to the communications manager.
      • organizing the TASC google drive and curriculum for use in future years
    • Maintain timely and responsive communication with young people and their parents over email, text, and phone, both via group communication and 1:1 calls and texts.
    • Recruit and retain graduates of our Jewish Cultural Sunday School and beyond

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE(S) WILL BRING:

    • 2+ years of youth organizing experience
    • Proven experience building trusting relationships across race, class, and generation
    • Ability to work individually and as a member of a team committed to the larger whole
    • Strong oral communication and facilitative skills; warm and engaging presence
    • Commitment to the mission and values of Boston Workers Circle, including:
      • Commitment to social, economic and racial justice
      • Welcoming all people across race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and ability
      • Being a voice for peace, justice, equality, dignity and safety for all in Israel/Palestine
      • Fighting anti-semitism by fighting in solidarity with others for the justice and liberation of all people.
