Who We Are: LAANE is an advocacy organization dedicated to racial, economic, and climate justice. Combining dynamic research, innovative public policy, and deep coalition organizing, LAANE works with labor and community partners to fight for policies that create good jobs, thriving communities, and a healthy environment. Position Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Campaign Director, the Research and Policy Analyst will conduct industry and policy research to help guide strategic campaign decisions and shape campaign messaging. Core responsibilities include, among others:

    • Writing research memos, fact sheets, and reports, both for internal and external use
    • Analyzing school district, demographic, and industry data from public and private sources
    • Identifying, reviewing, and analyzing primary and secondary sources
    • Conducting and leading interviews and surveys

    Job Qualifications:

    • Technical Skills: Strong skills in written communication, report writing, familiarity with Westlaw (or similar), Excel, Google Workspace, and quantitative and qualitative analysis.
    • Research Experience: Demonstrated community or labor campaign research and/or a degree in public policy, urban planning, or a related field.

    • Working as a leader within a team: Ability to work independently and collectively within a team and coalition with outside partners. Possesses strong interpersonal communication skills and emotional intelligence.
    • Dedication and responsibility: Willingness to work long hours and participate in organizational actions or events that occur during evening and weekend hours. Detail-oriented, well-organized, possess problem-solving skills, can balance multiple projects, work well under deadlines, and think proactively. Have a positive, can-do attitude and a desire to learn.

Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, salaried position at $73,000. LAANE offers 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance plans and a 401(k). LAANE is a qualified federal student loan forgiveness employer.

LAANE offers generous paid time off, including twelve personal days, eight observed holidays, and three floating holidays each year. LAANE has a paid, two-week winter break at the end of each year. Employees can accrue up to twenty vacation days and twelve sick days. After five years of work, all staff are eligible to apply for three months of paid sabbatical leave.

The position is not a 9 to 5 job; it requires work on nights and weekends, as well as an expectation to take responsibility for LAANEʼs broader work as assigned/needed for all LAANE campaigns and all ‘hands-on-deck’ actions. The position is based in Los Angeles.

We are a proud union employer. This position is a bargaining unit position.
