    Founded in 2010, Isuroon is a women-led organization empowering Somali women in Minnesota. We provide access to health, financial literacy, civic engagement, and leadership programs. Through partnerships, we offer culturally competent training and research to improve outcomes and reduce disparities. Our mission is to support Somali women in overcoming barriers, navigating healthcare systems, and advocating for their well-being.

    Role:

    The Development Consultant is responsible for supporting proposal development, fundraising, reporting, and contract compliance to ensure the successful execution of programs. This role focuses on strengthening the organization's infrastructure through capacity-building strategies and other methods aimed at promoting long-term financial sustainability.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Grant Management: (10%)
      • Manage organization’s grants calendar and deadlines.
      • Track and monitor grant compliance requirements.
      • Maintain grant documentation and files.
      • Coordinate with program staff to gather necessary data.
      • Ensure timely submission of reports to funders.
      • Ensure compliance with all grant and contract requirements.
      • Document grant outcomes and success stories.
    • Proposal Development: (25%)
      • Research and identify new grant opportunities.
      • Develop relationships with funding organizations.
      • Create or support the creation of compelling grant narratives.
      • Build grant budgets in collaboration with finance team
      • Maintain updated organization materials for proposals
      • Track funding trends and opportunities
      • Lead or facilitate the development, writing, and submission of proposals and Letters of Inquiry (LOIs).
    • Fundraising: (25%)
      • Support the execution of fundiraising efforts and capaigns in collaboration with the Executive Directors and consultants.
      • Develop Board subcommittees to support fundraising efforts.
    • Events: (20%)
      • Support the Executive Director, other staff, and Board members in planning and executing fundraising, “friendraising”, and donor/volunteer stewardship events.
    • Reporting: (10%)
      • Collaborate with the Data and Reporting Manager to support the data processes with narratives.
      • Facilitate the submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to donors and the Board of Directors.
    • Administration: (10%)
      • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
      • Communicate relevant updates and information to appropriate staff and Board members.
      • Oversee other staff as needed.

    The Development Consultant will work closely with the administration team to support the organization’s growth and sustainability efforts while ensuring compliance with all funding and regulatory requirements.

    Consultancy Requirements:

    • Bachelors or Masters degree in related field.
    • Four or more years of professional experience with nonprofits, NGOs, or other cause-based organizations.
    • Four or more years experience in grant writing and management.
    • Proven track record of successful grant acquisition.
    • Experience with fundraising and event development/support.
    • Strong writing and editing skills.
    • Proficiency in budget development.
    • Must have experience in and a strong understanding of nonprofit organizations.
    • Attention to detail as well as the ability to see the bigger picture of overall programs and goals.
    • Effectively utilize general and program-specific computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, etc.).
    • Effectively operate typical office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, mail machine, etc.).
    • Sensitivity to different cultural, socio-economic, and age groups is required.

    Additional Desired Experience & Qualifications:

    • Those with experience living or working in challenging international or domestic contexts (Peace Corps, Americorps, relief work, refugee camps, resettlement organizations, etc.) are highly encouraged to apply.
    • Experience with donor reporting, donor stewardship, and Board development an added asset.
    • Lived experience as a newcomer to the U.S. (asylum seeker, refugee, immigrant, etc.) will be an added asset.
    • Speaks one or more languages other than English, including Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian, May May, Somali, Kizigua, etc. will be an added asset.

    Compensation:

    $40,000 with the possibility of becoming a full time role.

    Job Type:

    • 24-32 hours per week

    Days & Hours:

    • Felxible. Monday through Wednesday or Thursday, 9 am to 5 pm or Nights/weekend time may occasionally be required to meet deadlines required, at times.

    Reports to:

    • Executive Director

    Level of Language Proficiency

    English, native speaker or fluent in reading, writing, conversation, and comprehension.

    Other languages an asset.

    Location

    Work must be performed in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Hybrid options available, however the role will require in-person time in the Isuroon office at least 2-3 days per week.
