    Description

Effectiveness Coach – Los Angeles Teacher Preparation Pathway

    Los Angeles, California

    WHO WE ARE

TNTP brings research, policy, and consulting together to reimagine America’s public education system. We are a fully remote, national organization of over 600 full-time TNTPers with expertise from a variety of fields, united by the vision to change outcomes for all students.

Working collaboratively, we dig into educators’ toughest challenges, and we provide actionable solutions grounded in evidence. This work takes place in schools and districts across the country, and our national position allows us to spot trends, collect and analyze data, and advocate for policy changes that introduce greater impact at scale. We work across sectors and partner with school systems to ensure that the 3.5 million young people who graduate high school every year have pathways to economic and social mobility.

TNTP is leading an initiative, the Los Angeles Teacher Preparation Pathway (LATPP), to support talented classified staff to take the next step in their careers to become teachers while increasing their economic mobility and serving the unique needs of students in Los Angeles County, especially students who are learning English or speak more than one language (multilingual learners or MLs). Through LATPP, we aim to prepare 460+ aspiring teachers to earn their credentials and serve students in grades TK-12. In addition, by learning from our participants’ experiences, we will inform public policy to remove barriers for individuals to earn their teaching credentials.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

As an Effectiveness Coach, you will play a critical role in TNTP's teacher development initiatives and academic consulting work. Through internally created tools and resources, you will be responsible for the guidance and development of LATPP participants, most of whom are veteran paraeducators aspiring to become classroom teachers. This includes facilitating professional development focused on preparing educators to support multilingual learners in classrooms, as well as providing guidance in selecting a credentialing pathway that best suits their needs. This position is currently grant-funded through June 2027.

Some responsibilities and duties may vary, but the role of Effectiveness Coach includes:

    • Developing LATPP participants through the facilitation of the Skills Building Experience (SBE), a semester-long, whole-group professional development program focused on enhancing strategies and skills to effectively support multilingual learners in the classroom.
    • Supporting participants in their credentialing journey through advocacy, mentorship, guidance, and consistent check-ins, taking a human-centered approach. This includes providing general support before, throughout, and after the process of entering a credential program.
    • Providing guidance on required teacher credentialing assessments necessary for participants to proceed in their journey to become classroom teachers.
    • Closely monitoring and tracking participants' progress regarding their credentialing steps and milestones through an established platform.
    • Providing ratings and feedback on participant work associated with the SBE, including monthly note-catchers and deliverables.
    • Collaboratively and independently identifying and implementing innovative solutions for improving the overall performance of the cohort, individual participants, and program components to meet contract goals.
    • Playing a supporting role in building organizational knowledge centered around teacher credentialing in the state of California and multilingual learner language acquisition pedagogy.
    • Visiting school campuses to observe LATPP participants in a classroom setting. The expected travel expectation for this role is up to 20%. Travel will take place within LA County and mostly be limited to two-to-three-week windows during the Fall, Winter, and Spring SBE cohort sessions. In addition, as this position does entail travel, all candidates must have a valid Driver’s License (reasonable accommodations are available for qualified individuals with disabilities).

    YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

    • At least three years of teaching experience.
    • Prior experience developing and coaching adults.
    • Experience supporting multilingual learners (MLs) and knowledge on best practices to support MLs.
    • Proven track record of building trusting relationships with other adults.
    • Previous experience designing and/or facilitating professional development for teachers.
    • Familiarity navigating the teacher credentialing landscape in California.
    • Knowledge and experience in Early Childhood Education (TK-3).
    • Ability to track and analyze data on participant and student performance to uncover trends and act strategically and effectively to improve results.
    • A commitment to constant learning and improvement in both your work and the work of others. You thrive on feedback and implement it quickly to improve your practice continually.
    • Professional fluency in English and Spanish.
