    Mobile Pantry Part-Time Commodities Associate Location: Bronx, NY

    New York Common Pantry is one of the city’s largest hunger relief organizations, providing food assistance, case management services, senior food provision, nutrition education, and hygiene services. We are a dynamic, mission-driven organization experiencing rapid growth and expansion.

    NYCP is a poverty-fighting organization that reduces hunger and promotes dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by using a holistic approach to reach over 122,000 distinct people -- over 729,000 visitors each year. Last year, we served over 11 million meals. Through an array of programs that we offer, we look to establish long-term stability for those we serve.

    The Mobile Pantry Part-Time Commodities Associate is responsible for ensuring that the Food Program operations at mobile sites and the warehouse (The Hub) run smoothly during distribution, including ensuring food packing is placed in the order in which members arrive, addressing member ordering issues, and implementing distribution protocols.

    The Mobile Pantry Part-Time Commodities Associate reports to the Warehouse Coordinator at the 1285 Oak Point Avenue, Bronx, NY 10474 location. This is a part-time position, up to 28 hours a week, and is non-exempt.

    Responsibilities:

    • Train and support volunteers to assemble pantry packages for pantry distribution and ensure adherence to Pantry Package Guidelines.
    • Provide excellent customer service while facilitating Mobile Pantry operations off-site.
    • Control the flow of clients at mobile sites and appropriately resolve member issues that may occur.
    • Ensure distribution protocols are followed by support staff and volunteers.
    • Work closely with Mobile Pantry staff, Drivers, and Commodities Associates to set up and pack food packages for distribution at mobile sites.
    • Inventory maintenance for all food and program-related supplies, and ensure appropriate storage of delivered items along with the stock rotation at the warehouse in Hunts Point.
    • Ensure that the packing areas and distribution space are properly set up before the program starts operations, including working with partnership staff to ensure the work area is set up for pantry distribution.
    • Load and unload vans/trucks and keep an accurate count of commodities being sent out/returning to the warehouse.
    • Other responsibilities as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • A High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
    • Experience in Hand truck/pallet jack is required.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs is required.
    • Commitment to helping the communities in need and NYCP’s work and mission.
    • Certification in Food Safety Handling by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is preferred.
    • Full professional proficiency level in English/Spanish or English/Mandarin/Cantonese is a plus.
    • Comfortable working with diverse populations.
    • Multitask and work in a highly trafficked area.
    • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
