    Description

    Capital City Symphony (CCS) is seeking an Orchestra Librarian and Personnel Manager to join our team and help support the concert season. This position will work closely with the Artistic Director and Executive Director throughout the season, which spans from September to May, while also dedicating time during the summer months to prepare for the upcoming year.

    Hybrid work with flexible hours. Some in-person hours will be required on evenings and weekends for events or rehearsals at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Washington, DC. Must work from your own computer and internet connection. Approximately 15-20 Hours a month, with more hours needed during concert season.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage the orchestra's music library, including acquiring, preparing, and distributing music materials in a timely manner, as well as manage return of those materials at the end of each concert cycle. Keep music storage and orchestra library organized.
    • Manage and coordinate all aspects of orchestra personnel, including: recruitment, arranging for and hiring paid subs and ringers as needed, creating rosters in consultation with the Artistic Director. Manage rosters for all concerts, and community events. Maintain master roster for regular players and subs.
    • Ensure musicians have correct music, performance materials, including correcting parts as needed. Clearly communicate rehearsal details, including any changes, to musicians.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with publishers, vendors, libraries, and other music resources to ensure the orchestra can access the most up-to-date music resources and materials.
    • Attend concerts, rehearsals as needed, especially the first rehearsal of each concert cycle and concert week/dress rehearsals.
    • Keep track of player attendance and availability. Communicate expected absences with artistic director and/or concert conductor at regular intervals.
    • Regular communication with production and operation teams throughout the season.
    • Coordinate and attend auditions. Communicate results to auditionees.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    What We Are Looking For:

    • Experience in orchestra personnel management and library strongly preferred
    • Experience as an orchestral musician is helpful
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, collegial approach to work environment
    • Knowledge of classical music repertoire
    • Appreciation for working with committed and talented volunteer musicians

    Compensation

    $4,500 annual compensation for roughly 15-20 hours of work per month during concert season (September through May); 10-30 total hours expected June - August.
