    Youth Director

    Burbank First United Methodist Church

    Position: Part-time (up to 20 hours), Non-exempt

    Reports to: Senior Pastor

    Job Summary:

    The Director of Youth Ministry oversees all youth and must be able to help create discipleship opportunities and growth.

    Qualifications:

    • Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ, seeking to know, love, and serve God.
    • Exemplify the church’s values
    • Support the church’s purpose, vision, and journey.
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of developing quality relationships; a recognized aptitude for interpersonal engagement, structured dialogue, and discipleship.
    • Ability to understand the needs of each age group from 6th-12th grade and an understanding of Youth ministry.
    • Needs to be at least 5 years older than the oldest youth member who can be 18 years old.
    • Flexible, dedicated, dependable, team builder, and highly motivated.
    • Ability to create and develop new leaders with other lay adults as well as youth.
    • Experience in youth ministry (preferred).
    • Complete certification for working with minors (training) and a background check.
    • Microsoft Office proficient.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Plan, implement, and oversee all aspects of youth programming, including:
      • Facilitate Sunday morning Youth Group class and all youth activities
      • Recruiting, inspiring, and leading volunteers to help serve alongside you.
      • Direct participation in engaging and teaching youth.
      • Organize, implement and participate in youth retreats and mission opportunities (SSP) and camps.
      • Organize and assist with teaching yearly confirmation class in consultation with Senior Pastor
      • Connect with students by being present and engaging in school-related activities (as appropriate).
      • Participate in Leadership Ministry Planning Retreats, Church Council, and other meetings as appropriate to position.
    • Work with Senior pastor to plan, organize, and prepare curriculum for youth ministries.
    • Understand and project the mission, vision, and values of Burbank First UMC into youth ministries
    • Work cooperatively with pastors, staff, volunteers, and parents to promote intentional spiritual development with youth.
    • Work with Pastors to contribute to and maintain consistent direction for the overall ministry through strategic planning and collaboration; receptive to changing needs of youth.
    • Plan and coordinate youth-led worship services.
    • Plan a monthly youth activity on a weekend.
    • Ensure all volunteers complete safety certifications.
    • Explore opportunities to connect with other local youth groups.
    • Attend weekly Staff Meetings and be prepared to give input and take direction on Youth Ministry.
    • Participate in performance reviews (90-Day, six month, and annual); annually thereafter, or as needed.
    • Other Duties as assigned.
