    Position Summary

    We are seeking a skilled and creative Health Illustrator to create a series of simple, culturally sensitive illustrations for our school-based health training curriculum and toolkit. These graphics will be featured in print and digital resources used to train health workers serving thousands of school-aged children in Kenya and globally.

    This position is ideal for an early-career illustrator interested in health communications and mission-driven work tailored for low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This role will work closely under OGT’s Medical Director to visually communicate health concepts such as taking a temperature, performing CPR, and disinfecting water.

    Reference one of One Good Turn's previous health education publications, the Corona Care Handbook, for a reference of the image style we're seeking.

    Scope of Work

    • Deliverables: Create a series of original, culturally adapted illustrations designed for low-resource environments, aligned with all sections of One Good Turn’s school-based health training curriculum and toolkit.
    • Style: Simple, clear, and accessible visuals suitable for low-literacy environments
    • Format: High-resolution digital files optimized for print and digital use
    • Process:
      • Collaborate with OGT Medical Director to review concepts and expectations
      • Submit draft illustrations for feedback (1–2 rounds of revisions)
      • Revise illustrations based on feedback
      • Deliver final files in required formats (PNG, SVG, or vector PDF)

    Qualifications

    • Portfolio of health illustration work (required)
    • Strong communication skills and responsiveness to feedback
    • Sensitivity to cultural contexts and experience designing for diverse or low and middle-income country (LMIC) audiences
    • Familiarity with low-literacy design principles is a plus

    Compensation

    This is a flat-fee contract in the amount of $1,500 USD for the full scope of work described in this agreement. The Contractor agrees to deliver all final materials within 6–8 weeks from the contract start date. The Contractor may set their own schedule but is expected to maintain regular communication and attend periodic check-in meetings as reasonably requested by One Good Turn.

    Final deliverables must:

    • Be submitted in high-resolution digital format;
    • Be complete, culturally appropriate, and aligned with curriculum content as provided and discussed;
    • Reflect all revisions based on feedback from One Good Turn’s medical and programs teams.

    The full payment of $1,500 will be issued in a single installment upon submission and approval of all final deliverables. Payment will be made within 10 days of receipt of an invoice and satisfactory completion of all work. One Good Turn reserves the right to withhold final payment, in whole or in part, if the deliverables do not meet the quality or scope outlined in this agreement or fail to incorporate requested revisions within a reasonable timeline.

    The Contractor acknowledges that they are operating as an independent contractor, not as an employee of One Good Turn. As such, the Contractor is solely responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local taxes, including income tax, self-employment tax, and any required filings with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
