Role: Real Estate Associate Project Manager

    Location: Los Angeles, CA (hybrid)

    Job Posted: May 2025

    Compensation: $60,000-72,000 depending on experience

    ABOUT US:

At Liberty Community Land Trust, we're redefining community empowerment through innovative and collaborative real estate development. Join us in shaping a world where community ownership and justice pave the way for a more equitable future.

We’re not your typical non-profit. Liberty Community Land Trust stands as land liberators, social enterprise creators, and community-driven real estate developers. Our mission is bold – to establish community control of land, democratize the economy, and advance racial, economic, and climate justice through innovation, collaboration, and public policy/advocacy. We are known for leading the most successful raise for a community-owned real estate project in American history and developing a groundbreaking model for community ownership. We're seeking co-creators, talented innovators and disciplined practitioners, ready to dream big and make an impact.

    YOUR ROLE:

As a Real Estate Associate Project Manager, you will play a central role on our real estate administrative team, supporting the operations and development of affordable housing and community spaces. This role is primarily administrative, focusing on managing critical tasks that keep our real estate efforts on track. While you won’t initially take full ownership of land development/renovation projects, your work coordinating, organizing, and managing key tasks across our diverse portfolio and projects will be essential to their success. Over time, this position offers the opportunity to grow into a real estate project management role, directly contributing to Liberty Community Land Trust's mission to create and sustain affordable housing and community spaces as we expand our development initiatives.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    Administrative Coordination & Project Support

      • Project Administration: Keep real estate records, contracts, and schedules meticulously organized. Maintain a centralized documentation system to ensure all team members and stakeholders are aligned and prepared for key decisions and milestones.
      • Meeting & Communication Management: Prepare agendas, slide decks, project updates, and meeting summaries. Lead/facilitate convenings with staff, coalition partners, consultants, and other development professionals. Track action items and ensure follow-up.
      • Interdisciplinary Coordination: Collaborate closely with development partners, property managers, contractors, planning officials, and community organizations to keep projects moving forward and aligned with timelines, scopes, and mission objectives.
      • Procurement & Sector Research: Draft RFPs, conduct due diligence, and participate in interviews for real estate professionals, consultants, and vendors. Stay abreast of trends and innovations in construction, land use, affordable housing, and mission-aligned development.
      • Transaction Support: Manage documentation and timelines through all phases of acquisition, from purchase agreements through escrow and closing.

    Budgeting, Financing & Feasibility

      • Lender & Fundraising Support: Prepare pro formas, project narratives, and financing packages. Communicate with lenders, foundations, and impact investors. Gather and organize materials for funding applications and due diligence.
      • Feasibility & Financial Modeling: Help streamline project budgeting tools and provide early-stage feasibility analysis for new acquisitions or developments. Present data in clear, actionable formats for leadership decision-making.
      • Budget Oversight: Track and reconcile project budgets and expenditures. Address billing issues or cost discrepancies in collaboration with the finance team and external vendors.

    Compliance, Operations & Site Oversight

      • Property Oversight: Coordinate with property managers and vendors to address maintenance and capital improvement needs across our portfolio of sites. Ensure that repairs are timely and up to standard.
      • Regulatory Compliance: Support compliance with affordable housing regulations, sustainability goals, and internal stewardship standards. Prepare and file welfare tax exemption filings and related government submissions. Review insurance coverage and oversee policy renewals.
      • Field Operations: Organize and conduct site visits, oversee inspections, and manage logistics to ensure projects are progressing smoothly on the ground.

    Community Engagement & External Relations

      • Community Engagement: Attend and represent Liberty at community meetings, planning workshops, and partner events. Share project updates and gather feedback to ensure alignment with local needs and priorities.
      • Partnership Development: Build and sustain relationships with city officials, planning agencies, lenders, and coalition members to align projects with community priorities and build political and financial support.

    PROFESSIONAL GROWTH:

This role is intentionally designed for growth. While the initial focus is on coordination and administrative project support, the Real Estate Associate Project Manager will take on increasing responsibility over time. With mentorship and hands-on experience, this position is intended to evolve into a traditional real estate project manager role — with ownership of full project cycles, from pre-development through close-out.

    WHO YOU ARE:

      • A mission-driven professional, with at least 3 years of experience in real estate development.
      • At least 2 years of project management experience.
      • Holder of industry certification, Bachelor’s degree in real estate, urban planning, construction management, or a related field or relevant experience.
      • Knowledgeable and proficiency in affordable housing regulations, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating community impact.
      • Detail-oriented and highly responsive, with a proven ability to manage aggressive schedules, maintain accurate documentation, and follow through on time-sensitive tasks in an environment with diverse and complex needs/projects.
      • You proactively identify gaps, anticipate project needs, and keep operations running smoothly through strong organizational systems.
      • A strategic thinker with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
      • Culturally competent and committed to equity, inclusivity, and community empowerment.
      • A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, can lead independently, and can manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
      • A continuous learner, eager to grow into a full project management role, expand your impact in community development and enhance their professional journey.
      • Practically equipped with reliable vehicular transportation and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs as needed.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This exempt position offers between $60,000-72,000 per year, depending on experience, with a flexible work schedule and a three-day per week on-site minimum.
