    Supervisor: IT/Facilities Manager

    Job Status: Full Time / Non-Exempt

    Job Hours: 35 hours per week (8am- 4pm, On-Site)

    Location: Midtown Manhattan

    Compensation: $45,000 annually

    About Position: The Head Custodian is responsible for overseeing and performing custodial operations to ensure a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for all staff, visitors, and program participants at Encore Community Services sites. This position plays a critical role in working with the Facilities team, ensuring compliance with safety and sanitation standards, and responding to facility needs in a timely and effective manner. The Head Custodian will work closely with the Facilities Manager and other departments to support daily operations and special events, contributing to the overall functionality and appearance of the organization’s facilities.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning schedule for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment (including the outside of the facility)
    • Ensure cleaning schedules are being followed and met at the senior center (including offices and bathrooms) to ensure a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
    • Oversee the preparation of the senior center for special activities, events and daily programming.
    • Consults with administrative personnel for the purpose of planning, prioritizing and scheduling custodial activities and achieving site maintenance objectives.
    • Distributes custodial supplies and equipment for disseminating materials to custodial staff/volunteers and/or storage locations.
    • Inspects facilities to ensuring that the site is suitable for safe operations, maintained in an attractive and clean condition, identifying necessary repairs to facilities and/or equipment, etc.
    • Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops, etc.) for ensuring the availability of custodial items required to properly maintain facilities.
    • Monitors senior center members, volunteers, and staff in and around work areas for the purpose of preventing injuries and ensuring site safety.
    • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
    • Performs minor maintenance building repairs (e.g. electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.) for maintaining a safe and attractive building.
    • Responsible for collecting and removing trash and recyclables in accordance with New York City sanitation regulations and facility guidelines;
    • Prepares written materials (e.g. supply requisitions, safety inspections, work orders, inventory records, time sheets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or relating activities to administration for action.
    • Replenishes senior center and rest room supplies (e.g. paper towels, soap, etc.) for ensuring adequate quantities for daily use.
    • Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.
    • Secures facilities (e.g. doors, locking equipment, lights, etc.) for minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liability.
    • Trains assigned personnel (e.g. new custodians, volunteers, etc.) for developing professional trade and safety awareness skills.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

    Job Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in facilities maintenance is a plus;
    • Minimum of 1 year of custodial experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role;
    • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, equipment, and safety protocols;
    • Ability to operate and maintain custodial and light maintenance equipment;
    • Strong organizational and time management skills;
    • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting cases of canned or other food items and cleaning of equipment;
    • Basic knowledge of and general maintenance is preferred;
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and clients;
    • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed;
    • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming facility environment;
    • Valid Certificate of Fitness for Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor or obtain within the first 6 months of employment;
    • Valid New York State or State of residence issued Driver’s License with clean driving record.
