    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Chief of Staff and Mission Animator (CSMA) is a senior leadership position that serves as a key advisor to the Maryknoll Sisters Congregational Leadership Team (CLT) and is to complement the work of the CLT in ensuring a mission-oriented culture. This role is responsible for supervising and coordinating department managers, leading various strategic initiatives, facilitating communication across the organization (congregation and staff), and overseeing special projects critical to the organization’s Vision: “Co-creating a One-Earth community where the values of whole-making, mission, and contemplation are being lived out.” The CSMA helps ensure fidelity to and faithful accomplishment of the MKS Vision and Mission Identity as determined by the CLT/Board of Directors. This position shall promote, sustain, and animate the MKS Vision and Mission Identity among the staff and administration, and develop mission projects for staff and sisters in the local area.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Work with the CLT in promoting the knowledge and understanding of the MKS vision, spirituality and mission identity among the staff. Work with the CLT in fully incorporating and animating MKS vision, spirituality and mission identity into policies, plans and practices of the organization. Work with CLT to develop a group of Vision/Mission Effectiveness Standards. Work with the CLT and Department Leads to establish a process of annual reviews of departments based on the Vision/Mission Effectiveness Standards. Work with the CLT and Department Leads to prepare for and make positive use of this new practice organization wide.

    Lead and accompany the Department Leads to foster a culture of MKS mission-aligned excellence and interdependence (mutual encouragement, mutual accountability) among all staff. Conduct regular coaching and performance appraisal of Department Leads. Model a strong presence by regularly attending major events and gatherings to engage with staff and members and to build trust. Engage in project planning and project management for cross-Department and/or significant strategic initiatives. Develop structures and processes for cross-Department collaboration, including establishing systems for collaboration, setting goals and mutual accountability metrics. This position works collaboratively with the HR Manager to onboard new staff with mission and vision orientation, ongoing formation and evaluation of staff.

    Educate the lay employees and local community about the Mission of Maryknoll Sisters. Create and execute programs, materials, and presentations that help the managers, lay employees, and local community understand the organization’s mission and values. Promote social justice and engage lay employees voluntarily in community service and mission projects, in alignment with the mission projects of Maryknoll Sisters. Work with Department leads to support mission-aligned initiatives and act as liaison between the organization and the local community.

    Guide annual and multi-year strategic planning efforts for the organization. Facilitate regular evaluation of departmental & organizational goals for annual and multi-year strategic planning. Work with CLT and Department Leads to expand and sustain practice of data use in decision making and strategic planning. Sustain and expand strategic partnerships related to key initiatives of the MKS: for example, with inter-congregational and interfaith associations, community-based organizations.

    Develop shared practices, meeting norms, and processes that foster high-quality professional development. Set calendar for and support all departments in professional development. Leverage shared processes for program evaluation for all professional development.

    REQUIREMENTS TO CARRY OUT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    ABILITIES AND DISPOSITIONS REQUIRED:

    Strong knowledge of and alignment with the Maryknoll Sisters' vision, spirituality, and mission identity. Deep understanding of and commitment to Catholic Social Teaching. StrongOrganizational, Interpersonal, and Communication skills (written and verbal). Pastoral and formation skills. Visionary and transformative. High level of discretion and respect for sensitive and confidential matters.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    • Experience in executive management, formation, and staff development.
    • Experience in visioning and implementing the vision and/or transformation.
    • Demonstrated experience and results as a transformative leader.

    EDUCATION REQUIRED

    • Master’s degree preferred in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support events and programming.
    • Willingness to travel overseas if required for meeting responsibilities.
