    Our School

    Cobble Hill Playschool is a NAEYC-accredited preschool that has served Brooklyn families for almost 50 years. We are a nonprofit parent cooperative, which means we place a premium on parent involvement and the home-school connection. Our unique and vibrant preschool program is play based, child centered, and deeply rooted in developmentally appropriate, research-based best practices. We utilize an emergent curriculum model and believe strongly in the innate capability of all young children. Our school year runs from August 25th through June 19th, and our schedule of paid holidays loosely follows the NYC public school calendar.

    Our Team

    Our team of teachers bring a wealth of experience and skills to the table. Master’s-level early childhood educators work with arts specialists and assistant teachers to create community, nurture curiosity, and discover the joys of learning through play on a daily basis.

    Role:

    The Behavioral Specialist is responsible for overseeing the implementation of research based, evidence driven, developmentally appropriate, positive behavioral supports throughout the school setting. The Specialist offers Administrative, Classroom, and Community support by providing applicable behavioral resources, by creating educational opportunities, and by fostering close, collaborative partnerships with parents, teachers, and students. Additionally, the behavioral specialist provides general administrative support for the school at the discretion of the executive directors.

    Your Responsibilities

    • Manages and documents school-wide “Response to Intervention” procedures and protocols (including, but not limited to: conducting formal student observations, writing individualized student learning plans, and creating effective strategies to meet the needs of a variety of learners)
    • Coordinates scheduling of related services received by students in the school building. Coordinates and streamlines communication between related service providers (both in an out of the school building) and teaching teams in order to ensure that all educational goals are being met
    • Works in collaboration with staff to integrate positive behavioral support into the curriculum, and sustain an educational environment that promotes each child’s

    cognitive, social, and emotional growth

    • Works in collaboration with families, highlighting student’s areas of strength and

    progress, while clearly, empathetically, and professionally communicating about

    student’s areas of need

    • Manage school’s record keeping for student data including, but not limited to:
      • Creation and upkeep of annual student database
      • Collecting student/family registration forms annually
      • Maintain/review student medical forms for DOH compliance
      • Review family questionnaires to identify possible behavioral supports required in advance
    • Fill in as a classroom teacher in the event of staff absences
    • Creates and disseminates information about various common behavioral topics via articles, news and views blurbs, and/or parent engagement events.
    • Gently guides families through the process of securing related services by providing resources, formulating plans of action, and engaging in ongoing compassionate, communication

    Your Qualifications

    • Master’s Degree in Early Childhood, Special Education (or related field)
    • NYS teaching certification preferred
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Exceptional communication skills - verbal and written
    • Patience, humor, empathy, and creativity
